Funding cutbacks are to blame for the impending closure of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Whitchurch.

Officials say they can no longer afford to keep the town's Watergate Street offices open and the branch will cease operating by Christmas.

The organisation has confirmed it is looking at alternative ways to provide services in the town.

Jackie Jeffrey, for Citizens Advice Shropshire, said: "We are facing funding reductions and this means looking at the way we deliver services in the future and what we can resource."

The Whitchurch branch now only opens one day a week (Tuesday) by appointment only to offer free help and advice on a range of issues.

Details of remaining services can be found on the CAB Shropshire website here.

The CAB services closest to Audlem are now Nantwich and Crewe. Nantwich CAB now only offers walk-in 'gateway assessments' for three mornings a week.

These are short interviews to help decide how clients can best be advised. There is a national telephone adviceline available on weekdays and the number to call is 08444 111 444 or you can get advice by email by signing up to the service on the Cheshire East CAB website here.
