The speaker at Burleydam W.I. AGM was Diana Marchand, who told us how she became interested in handicraft, and card making in particular.
She said that as she becme more involved, the materials started by filling a drawer, then a chest of drawers and now a room! She passed around some amazing examples of cards that she had made, in all shapes and sizes, decorated and folded to make really original cards that you would not want to throw away when your birthday was over.
She supplied materials for us to make a stand-up calendar, which members assembled and decorated with flowers and butterflies in vibrant colours.
The treasurer gave the financial statement for the year and the joint President, Jean Cornes, gave the Annual Report of the Committee, starting by saying that Burleydam W.I. was "small but very friendly", which had not daunted our efforts to have a pleasant, active and interesting programme of meetings and outings.
Angela Lightfoot thanked the officers and committee for their hard work during the year. The committee and officers were then voted in with the addition of Diana Marchand to the committee.
Competition winner for the best made calendar was Liz G entil: 2nd Joyce Cross and 3rd Rosemary Mulliner. Raffle winners were Angela, Margaret, Liz and Diana.
Next month Karen Gee will be demonstrating and making a Door Wreath. Visitors and new members welcome on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Community Room.
