Celia Bloor writes: "Almost a year after Buerton WI closed, their tablecloths – two of them,
embroidered with fighting cocks have been accepted by the National
Needlework Archive in Southampton. The History Society kept them safe and tried
to get them into the Whitworth Gallery Manchester, but they found they would
take up too much space for the amount of embroidery.
"Then Ann Pearce took up
the challenge and successfully found them a home. Thanks to Ann for
covering the not inconsiderable cost of postage. They have a section
dedicated to WI textiles as well as recording and collecting anything to do
with stitched textiles. See their website on www.nationalneedleworkarchive.org.uk (The website link that was here no longer works)
"The Buerton WI scrapbook is still in the possession of the History Society who
plan to photograph it and then donate it to Chester Record Office for
safekeeping. The copies of it will be kept in the society's document store
in the Scout and Guide Hall."
