Bowling in the Community for the Community

Audlem Bowling club recently held their annual Charity Plate Doubles competition. This years chosen beneficiary was the Audlem District Community Action (ADCA) Thursday Club for people living with dementia and their carers

The Charity Plate is open to both members and non-members and a record number of 38 participants took part in this years competition, with many more coming to enjoy the day and contribute to the fundraising.

Once all the entrants had been registered and the draw made, play commenced at around 11:00. After a full day, the 2023 champions were Graham Tysall and Jack Hazeldine.

A fantastic array of food was brought down by all contestants to share and the day involved numerous fund raising activities, including a Raffle, Blind Auction, Nearest the Bell, Sweepstakes and Sporting Anagrams.

Once all the various sources of donation had been collated a total of £846 was raised by the club.

The Bowling club committee would like to thank all the local businesses and individuals who contributed prizes to the raffle (too many to mention), Sylvia Stead for her wonderful mixed media art prize for the blind auction, Moira Stanistreet for her nearest the bell prizes and of course everyone who contributed towards the wonderful day's total. With other fundraising events planned for the rest of the year, we hope to be able to donate over £1,000 to the ADCA Thursday Club.

The next event at the Bowling Club will be the 75th Anniversary Doubles competition on Sunday 23rd July starting at 11:00.

Whilst this is only open to members, anyone is welcome to come down to watch and socialise in the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You never know they may also be a BBQ on the go.
