The newly published proposals for English constituencies at Westminster appear to show the disappearance of the Eddisbury constituency that currently includes Audlem.
The details published so far are quite complicated but it appears that it is proposed that Eddisbury transfers 4,475 voters (6.8%) to Northwich, 59,916 (90.9%) voters to Winsford and 1,523 (2.3%) to Chester. As soon as we have the exact boundaries, we will publish the details.
The change is part of the plan to reduce the number of constituencies from 650 to 600 and make the vast majority of seats – there are exceptions such as the Outer Isles in Scotland and the Isle of Wight in England – have more equal numbers of registered voters than at present.
The North West of England will lose three seats in total. It appears that Cheshire's constituencies will be Birkenhead, Chester, Congleton, Crewe & Nantwich, Hoylake & Neston, Macclesfield, Mersey Banks, Northwich, Wallasey, Warrington North, Warrington South, Widnes & Runcorn and Winsford.
Tatton, Eddisbury, Weaver Vale, Halton, Wirral South and Wirral West will all disappear under the proposals.
There are now some seats around the country that cross county and regional boundaries. It doesn't appear that Audlem has become part of a Shropshire seat but then again, maybe we are being saved for that transfer to Wales – Welsh seat details are yet to be published!
