Boats arriving for Historic Gathering

With just a week to go to the Festival of Transport, several boats have already arrived for the Gathering of Historic Boats, hoping for the best mooring spots! 

Outside Audlem Mill now are Dory, Acacia, Darley, Whitby and Thea, all at least 75 years old, and Saturn, now 106. 

Saturn is the last remaining Shroppie Fly boat, and was horse-drawn.  It carried cheeses and other goods, operating 24 hours a day, to the West Midlands, Manchester and Liverpool. 

Below the lock are Lepus, Telford and Princess Anne. By the end of the week, there will be about 35 historic boats, probably the largest number of working boats ever to be in Audlem. 

It really is worth a visit now to see these boats, which add lots of colour to our local waterway.
