A reminder that today, Sunday, 15th May, Combermere Abbey are hosting their annual two mile Bluebell Walk and Dog Show Event, which is a fun day out for the whole family, with lots to see and do.
The walk itself gives the opportunity to enjoy some of the ancient grounds of the historic Combermere Abbey Estate, which are not usually open to the public. Walk through woodlands and beside the picturesque lake, enjoying the scene of swathes of these stunning native woodland flowers.
The Abbey's walled garden with its magnificently restored Glasshouse will also be open for guests to enjoy – walk through the world's only fruit tree maze, an espaliered labyrinth of redcurrants, gooseberries and over 25 varieties of apple and pear tree, its blossom is a beautiful sight.
New this year is the opportunity for guests to tour the Abbey itself and learn more about the estate's history dating back to the C12th, for four centuries it was a Cistercian monastery.
Canine guests are also welcome (on a lead), and especially as the day's fun attractions will include a 'Dog Show', starting at 2pm (weather permitting) with classes including 'Handsomest Dog', 'Prettiest Bitch' and 'Waggiest Tail'.
The sponsor is Leonard Brothers Veterinary Practise, owned by TV vet Tom Leonard (appeared on BBC programme 'Vets in Practice'). Vouchers for complimentary canine dental health checks are on offer, to be taken in the veterinary practice. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the Walled Gardens.
For garden lovers, there will be a Spring Plant Sale, and delicious hot and cold refreshments are available for all to enjoy, from Maynard's Award Winning Farm Shop in Shropshire.
Admission costs for the Bluebell Walk are: Adults £5; Children under 16 – £2; Free for babies in carriers.
