Big change in Buerton

Tipped off yesterday that a big change was afoot in Buerton, Audlem Online sleuths have been let loose on the neighbouring municipality.

Confirmation from a source in the know soon arrived that the traditional red telephone box in Buerton – remarkably similar to the stock photograph seen here – has been painted as part of a programme to have the centre of Buerton transformed.

For reasons that will soon become clear, our source must remain anonymous. He, or possibly she, says: "Buerton Parish Council have bought the box and have now had it tidied up and repainted as a landmark in the middle of the village. There is no phone installed as one call in two years previously did not really warrant a demand on the precept for line rental etc.

"We do have plans advanced for the children's play area on the field behind, and now that the school building is in the process of being sold, the Parish have funds to get this going."

Somewhat saucily, our source adds: "Note that Buerton have spared no expense, and paid the same for the phone box as Audlem are to pay for the toilet block!"

He or she then goes on: "What the public do not know yet, after the Queen has opened the newly painted box, is that this is the first phase in the creation of the Buerton Enterprise Park.

"With the easy road access from the A525 and a good footpath to the rest of the village, units within the box will be let out to local businesses to create more local employment opportunities.  This will, of course, create a lot of traffic and so it will probably be necessary to re-trunk the A525.

"Having read the Cheshire East document relating to local spatial planning etc., you will see that Buerton are well in the forefront of cloud cuckoo thinking and bang in line with the Government's ambition of concreting over anything green."

And now you see why Audlem Online has to protect our sources.
