Audlem Youth Club meeting: Overwhelming

The meeting to discuss a relaunch of a youth club in Audlem ( name to be decided) went ahead at the Baptist Chapel last night.

The support was quite overwhelming with quite a large number of potential volunteers attending.

Our hosts, Judi and Alan Patterson welcomed us and were able to show us how the club might make use of the space whilst we await the hopefully positive outcome of the Big Lottery bid for the Public Hall Annexe.

Mandi Metcalfe outlined the support available from Cheshire East Youth services which included administration of the DBS (formerly CRB) checks and help in the early weeks once the club starts.

Ann-Marie Morgan of the Youth Federation explained how the club would be affiliated to the Youth Federation and as such receive ongoing support as well as initial training for volunteers in safeguarding, first aid and youth engagement. There will also be training for any younger volunteers wishing to become involved.

The evening voted in the Audlem student surveys organised by Mandi via Brine Leas as most popular was Friday. Friday would avoid clashes with other organisations such as Scouts and Guides.

The next step is to put the DBS checks and training in place for the group. This will take some weeks. Following on will be a launch event for new members, so watch this space.
