Audlem Online reported a month ago that Defra was to publish a booklet on 'Building Community Life', the competition the Government department sponsors as part of the Calor 'Village of the Year' title. Copies of the publication have been received this morning describing the 49 county 'top' villages across England. But there can only be one national winner and it's good to see Audlem at the front of the booklet as the national Defra winner for last year.

The booklet's introduction picks out a selection of achievements by villages across the country with Audlem highlighted twice – "Proceeds from the large and popular events the village organises are ploughed back into building community life," and "The Parish Council and local businesses are sponsoring the village website."

Preparations are now well underway for this year's Calor 'Best of the Best' competition when the village will be competing for the national title and a £20,000 top prize. The judges are visiting the village on 2nd May.
