Audlem Ramblers Walk Tomorrow

Jeanette Shenton is leading the Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) walk near Leek on Saturday 14th August. Meet Audlem Car Park at 8.30 am

Walk Description

This is a scenic 8.3 miles circular walk in the North Staffordshire countryside starting from Deep Hayes Country park near the market town of Leek.

A gentle start takes you past a series of pools that used to be a large reservoir, then out into open countryside with views opening up as you ascend out of the valley.

The next objective, Stanley Pool, is soon glimpsed in the distance after passing through the tiny hamlet of Tompkin. The tranquil waters of Stanley Pool were built to feed the Caldon Canal. This canal is followed on the last leg back to the start, which includes a canalside pub. A varied and not too taxing walk in charming countryside; note parts of this walk can be muddy after rain.

Start point

It is a 50 minute drive (25 miles) to the start of the walk, Deep Hayes Country Park ST9 9QC where there is plenty of free parking.

There are toilets at the start of the walk but they were closed when I reccied the walk early in July, but may or may not be open when we go.


NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
