At a presentation evening last night, the first two community groups to receive cheques from the Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council Community Initiative Award Scheme were Audlem Public Hall, represented by Frank Gillies, and the Audlem Special Events Team represented by Andrew Smith. This may, of course, be only due to the alphabetic advantage enjoyed by Audlem over, say, Wistaston, but we like to think that it represents another instance of the Audlem Community spirit. Certainly Audlem was the only village to receive two such awards on the evening.

The event was introduced by Councillor Steven Roberts and also addressed by the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Mrs Carolin Paton-Smith, and was attended by some twenty organisations which have benefited from the Community Initiative Award Scheme.
