Audlem was featured on the James Watt show on BBC Radio Stoke yesterday afternoon in an interview with AudlemOnline's editor.

The chat covered a number of areas starting off with the new Audlem Tourism Group launching a Facebook page called Audlem CW3 (our postcode, of course) which aims to reach the many thousands of followers of a host of local Facebook pages run by businesses and community groups.

Audlem CW3 will feature all the events and local attractions as tourism is so important for our many shops, pubs and cafes.

The next local event coming up that was mentioned is this Saturday with a Garden Party at nearby Buerton House to raise money for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice. There has been an active Donna Louise support group in Audlem for years.

The Garden Party is also held in memory of a very popular local lady who led the local Donna Louise Support Group, May Hunter, who tragically died suddenly a couple of years ago as she was working on that year's garden party.

Also on the subject of events, the interview described how Audlem has its Transport Festival and Gathering of Historic Narrow Boats, organised by Audlem Mill, coming up this month on 30th and 31st of July for the Historic Boats and the Transport Festival organised by ASET on Sunday, 31st July.

It's all free and the 300 or so vehicles parade through the village from about 12.15pm and then can be inspected on the playing field. Down on the canal, over 30 historic boats make a great sight.

It was mentioned that this week our Festival team announced that after the success of this year's Music & Arts Festival they will be going ahead with another in 2017 over the late May Bank Holiday – as a side-thought the editor wondered if the new Prime Minister is the first to have a Bank Holiday (indeed two) named after her.

The long range weather forecast is apparently as good for that weekend as the weather was this year. Again, it's all free and it is said to be the best free festival in Cheshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Finally, while two have the webteam has been away in Spain and missed the Referendum period, a third member has just returned from California where he has been for the past four weeks. He has written a light-hearted piece (published yesterday) about how everything in Britain seems to have changed politically in those four short weeks and contrasts our political situation with the country's sporting successes in cycling, motor racing, tennis, rugby and football – in the latter case it's nearby Wales that gets the plaudits although we did at least have an English referee in the Euro final.

Unfortunately, so far all too many of the politicians have been aping the English footballers, dropping out very early rather than fighting on, but hopefully they will return very soon to winning ways like so many of our sporting heroes!
