Following on from the meeting I had with the Britain in Bloom judges, I am delighted to say that for the 4th year running, Audlem has again been nominated for an award in the Total North West section, which as you know covers an area from Barrow in Furness and down to Audlem as the furthest south of all towns and villages.
The judges were especially in praise of the cleanliness of the village. Not a scrap be seen. Not even a fag end. No graffiti at all. They thought that the blaze of colours we had created was splendid – especially the red, white and blue, the hanging baskets and the efforts taken in keeping all alive with watering undertaken.
They were very impressed with the vitality of the shops, with not one empty – such a contrast with so many places they have visited over the past months in judging. They also commented on the pleasant meetings they had with all they saw and chatted to. The super toilets block, in such contrast with so many councils closing them down.
The more permanent plantings ADAS has created were also well received, with masses of honey bees very busy on the lavenders in the church bed.
All in all, they felt that the good feeling of community was very, very apparent. A very good tick in the box for all who presented such a good face, and amazingly, as I report, the 4th award in a row.
Our thanks to all who support ADAS with their donations – residents, businesses and the Parish Council. We can not do as we do without this most valuable aid in our works.
The national award ceremony takes place in October in Southport. There we will learn just what class of medal we have won.

Acting Chairman ADAS
