Hi, As a follow up to the excellent April Fool story on Monday, out of the blue, I have received the following:
"I would like to offer my services for the trips to Dunkirk. Having been actually on a u boat and qualified in several navigation fields I feel I am admirably suited to this position. My favourable position would be lying down as I find from past experience that I am less sea sick that way. I am available at any time but would definitely like to be back from each trip in time for egg heads.
I regret I am not conversant with the route on the canal from Middlewich but no doubt this can be memorised and charts would be available from the admiralty.
I am effluent in both German and French which I am sure would be an asset should customs problems arise.
I do have some experience in boats and nautical matters especially alighting onto small jetties.
You may remember that I am quite conversant with the Audlem Lass, ( in fact one or two of them actually) and have a certificate in bailing and a radio licence
Should I be successful in my application I assume I would be allowed to partake in sampling some of the Cargo to help wash down my sandwiches to avoid drinking sea water.
I am sure I could be a great asset to your team and I do have a spare petrol can should you require it!
Yours Faithfully
Bernard Gribbin"
