Audlem is....

During our Music and Arts Festival we had Emma Pursehouse – Poet – creating poetry from the people of the village. The poem she has written is so lovely that I think it will be enjoyed by many.

Audlem is...

Audlem is
a walk back in time
with the ancient butter market at its heart.

Audlem is
the best treacle sponge and apple pie,
black dogs in red neckerchiefs,
didgeridoos and duck whistles,
a clash of cymbals,
hurdy gurdies,
sunny even in the rain.

Audlem is
the canal and the Shroppie Fly,
the Lord Combermere's burgers,
the cheese boat, wine boat and fair ground swing boats,
breakfast with wine on Sunday mornings,
everything it should be and nothing it shouldn't.

Audlem is
where the flags fly all summer,
where everyone says hello.

Audlem is
a lovely place to be nestled in,
a doing place,
a place to live,
a place to breathe,
a place to create,
a place to be,
a home from home.

Audlem is
village life,
a diamond perfectly cut
in a four counties ring.
