An Audlem story is included in today's letters column in the Daily Telegraph. Readers of Audlem Online, and others with a long memory, might be familiar with the tale.
Peter Holme of Kendal, Cumbria, writes in the national newspaper in a section about horses travelling by train:
“SIR – In February 1947, an entire farm, including 90 head of cattle, hens, and a dog, was moved by train from Milnthorpe in Westmoreland to Audlem in Cheshire. The household furnishings and farming implements were also loaded.
A blizzard was raging, the local paper reported, but the train arrived at Audlem only four minutes late, and not a single pot was broken.
Peter Holme”
