Audlem from the air through the ages

Members of Audlem Probus heard a hugely amusing and informative talk last week from local aviation enthusiast Steve Farr on 'Recreational Flying.'

As regular readers will know, Steve and his father, Geoff Farr, have both published tales on Audlem Online of their explots in their JODEL D150 Mascaret aircraft.

It's registered G-FARR, and is the only British aircraft registered with the same letters as the owner's name and is seen flying over Audlem and district regularly.

Amongst the most fascinating aspects of his talk were the two aerial photographs seen here which Steve has kindly supplied to Audlem Online.

Taken from almost the same spot above the Whitchurch road to the west of the village centre, the extent of change in Audlem in the past eighty years can be seen – click on the photos to enlarge them.

Moorsfield Avenue, the Tollgate Drive and Windmill developments did not, of course, feature in 1930. The new housing built since then has contributed to the village's population rising from 1,346 to 1,790 in 2001, the nearest available census to when the modern photo was taken in 2009.
