Potholes in local roads are not only driving AudlemOnline chatbox users to distraction.

Cheshire East councillor Rachel Bailey got a grilling over the state of road surfaces around Audlem at last week's Parish Council meeting.

She told parish councillors that Cheshire East was doing its best to tackle potholed roads despite limited resources this year.

But several parish councillors were still unhappy at the state of local roads, especially the state of Coole Lane.

Parish councillors complained that road repairs in Coole Lane were 'patchy' at best. "The repairs have only been half done," she was told.

Rachel Bailey defended Cheshire East's record on road repairs and insisted that, as far as she knew, the residents of Coole Lane were very satisfied with the recent repairs that had been carried out.

"Stretches of road have been repaired in good time and within budget. You must remember we have to work within a council tax freeze," she added.

But parish councillors insisted they were unhappy with the work. She was told that contractors had been called out two or three times to repair the same holes.

Patching and resurfacing work on Coole Lane was carried out in February and Cheshire East's cabinet member for the environment said at the time: "We are making it a priority to carry out repair works in Coole Lane."

Audlem residents can now report potholes online through an interactive map or contact the Highways Service on 0300 123 5020
