Audlem could be on TV tonight

It may well be worth staying up tonight to watch Party People at 11.35pm on Granada TV. The political programme is, we believe, taking a close look at the service provided by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and at least one of the Audlem cases that attracted so much attention last year is being featured. A local resident, who was the patient involved in the case where it took the ambulance 70 minutes to arrive (the NWAS said it was 59 minutes), has been interviewed for the programme.

We understand local MP Stephen O'Brien is also to be on. As Shadow Health Minister with responsibility for the ambulance service, he has taken an interest in the issue, particularly as it affects rural communities like Audlem. Last year, he organized the public meeting in the village attended by Deputy Chief Executive of the NWAS, Bob Williams and other senior ambulance staff.

Readers of the Chronicle will also know that First Responders in Nantwich have been expressing serious concerns about possible cutbacks in that service by the NWAS. This was reported in depth on the BBC's North West news programme on Monday evening. Audlem is in the process of setting up a First Responder team with eleven volunteers attending a meeting with the NWAS only last week. It is understood that Stephen O'Brien is asking for details of the rumoured cutbacks and an explanation as to why they are necessary and the resulting impact on patients.
