Audlem Cemetery

As the poor wet winter is now over, we take on the task of sprucing up the cemetery grounds. I try at all times to ensure that our place of rest is in the best shape and a place of which to be very proud.

The small staff are hard at work in mowing the whole area of close to five acres- made very difficult as we have to cut round all of close to 2000 headstones. A tricky job, ensuring no damage is caused. Add to that each headstone is strimmed around to keep all neat and cared for.A tiring and testing job but one in which we are all very committed. (Planting of the bedding flowers will take place in a few weeks. )

As you will see if you make a visit to what is a very peaceful place with much bird song. A note -- the big tree by the tools shed is a lime tree. Which, by its girth, we estimate was planted in 1810 -- in the reign of King George 111

The accompanying photos show two of the carved faces that grace the chapels and act as our guardian if you like!

Some folks do come here and sit on the benches and enjoy their lunch break, which is very nice to see.
