Audlem and the Weaver Valley Regional Park

(The website link that was here no longer works) Shea O'Neill, the project manager of the Weaver Valley Regional Park, is visiting Audlem this week and will be involved in discussions about Audlem's role in the new Regional Park. Shea announced in May at the Annual Village Meeting that the boundaries of the new park had been re-drawn to include Audlem. Originally it had been reported that the park was to extend from Frodsham in the north to Nantwich in the south. To their credit, the planners of the park responded to concerns on Audlem Online and in local newspapers that Audlem's key position in the Weaver Valley had been overlooked and changed the park's boundaries.

The new park, with 111km of navigable waterways, is designed to help promote recreation and tourism by providing access to quality landscapes and wildlife. There will be a programme to create unique spaces and places to visit and the Weaver Way would become a north/south route for walking, cycling, rowing and canoeing which would now have Audlem at its southern boundary.

The park's planners are looking to raise £100 million over the next twenty years and are looking to work with a local Audlem partner, ideally the Parish Council, in developing facilities. While the Cheshire County Council team working on the project is small, Shea estimated that 200 to 300 people in various partner organisations were getting involved in the development of visitor attractions and facilities along the Weaver Valley.

A small Audlem team will meet this week with Shea, show her around the area, and discuss possible plans and funding sources for what will be southern gateway to the Regional Park.
