Anton Woolford is leading the next ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk at Lyme Park;. It's 10.5 miles with 1830 feet of climbing. Meet on Audlem Car Park at 8.30am this coming Saturday, 14th February.
Anton's description says:
Starting at Nelson Pit CP (SK12 1TH – SJ 945833), the route is a variation on the popular Lyme Park circuit.
After gaining the high knoll called the Knott, we drop down the wooded track to West Parkgate and then follow the North Cheshire Way across sheep fields and moorland towards Dale Top and onto Sponds Hill – at 1300ft, a high point on the walk.
At Bowstones, we drop down to cross the road and work around the old Moorside hotel, now a school. A climb up takes us to the top of Black Hill with splendid views – here at 1250ft.
The way back beckons down to cross the road again, entering Lyme Park at the East Lodge and heading for the Cage before dropping down to Park Gate. The turn south joins with the North Cheshire Way again as we head back to the Car Park.
At 10.5 miles with 1830ft climb this is a mature 3 Booter – though in winter conditions may be well be a challenge.
