ARS AGM

Over 40 members attended the AGM of Audlem Ramblers Society (ARS) held recently at the Lord Combermere, for an evening described by the Chair, Christine Johnson, of 'fun and jollity'.

The review of the past years activities included recollections of weekends away, a very chilly picnic at the Cricket Club and photos of various walks held throughout the year in varying weather conditions.

The Health and Safety Officer, Steve Elliott, reminded walkers they should check the leader's description of the walk to ensure that it is within their capabilities and to wear appropriate clothing especially footwear.

Peter Kay was especially thanked by the Honorary President Andy Davidson for his diligence and tenacity, campaigning over many years for the reinstatement beyond the Cheshire/Shropshire border of the footpath between Audlem and Adderley. In anticipation of its successful completion shortly, it is proposed that ARS walk the route and hold a celebratory event.

After a hot buffet supper, six members collectively known as the C2C Faffers described their exploits undertaking the Coast to Coast walk from St Bees on the west coast of England to Robin Hood's Bay on the east, a distance of 196 miles. They recalled the largely benevolent weather they'd enjoyed, the tranquillity, landscape, flora and fauna, and people they'd met en route. They expressed thanks for the support they'd had raising £2400 sponsorship for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
