Apologies to those looking for a peaceful life

AudlemOnline apologies to those readers that enjoy a peaceful life as two of our stories this morning seem to show the very opposite to peace and quiet might be coming our way.

Not only has news arrived of yet another significant housing development going forward for planning permission from Cheshire East but, only minutes later, came a story from Audlem Parish Council that plans for fracking in the area may not be far away.

Neither story is unnecessary scare-mongering as both are based on planning applications or official information about fracking licences that companies might wish to bid for, one of which covers our area.

These are both stories where we will bring the latest news as soon as we can and, where we believe it appropriate, will express our views and publish yours if you so wish.

We very much appreciate that there will be a range of views on both housing development and fracking within the community and we trust that anything we publish will be a balanced view on these issues.

Both fracking and yet another major planning application to build houses – and a fourth expected in the near future – will be a major test for Cheshire East's planners and those councillors sitting on the planning committees.

It will also be an important test of the principle of Neighbourhood Plans as Audlem has done all that has been asked of it in producing an impressive plan that reflects the views of the local community. Hopefully, local democracy and the views of local residents still carries some weight in planning law!
