Statement on the EU (Withdrawal) Bill

This month, the EU (Withdrawal) Bill has been debated in Parliament with votes on a number of amendments. I have received a high volume of correspondence on the matter and understand the high level of interest in my stance.

I have not voted against the Government on any amendment but have closely studied the detail of the Bill and am a signatory to a number of amendments. This legislation is of immense importance and as Members of Parliament we have a great deal of responsibility to get it right. I will therefore vote against the Government if I feel it is in the best interests of Eddisbury residents and businesses. I am however reassured by the Government's willingness to listen and to work on the basis of consensus.

We voted to leave the political union of the EU and as such, I voted to trigger Article 50. I maintain that we must leave the EU but am clear that the future settlement and trading relationship with the EU has not been decided. I am in favour of maintaining close ties to the EU to ensure that living standards do not fall and we maintain economic prosperity. A "hard" Brexit could potentially be catastrophic for the UK.

Opening of Audlem Public Hall Annexe

I was delighted to attend the official opening of the Audlem Public Hall Annexe on Saturday. It was a great afternoon full of live music and entertainment by local groups made possible by funding from the Big Lottery Fund and support from many local people.

The facilities include a gym, youth club, community room and changing rooms for sports teams. It is a great achievement by the local community for residents.

Malpas Community Minibus Launch

Last Friday I attended the launch of Malpas Community Minibus following a campaign to improve local transport. The Minibus will enable people and groups to access cultural, educational and leisure services.

Over £40,000 has been raised to purchase this brand new 13 seater minibus with the work being done by the Malpas OPAL group. This is a great asset to the community and I hope those registered groups and organisations will make the most of it. I look forward to seeing it in action around Malpas.

Winsford Survey

When I speak to people across Winsford they tell me they feel neglected and forgotten by Cheshire West. I want to help reverse that and put Winsford back into the minds of everyone here in Cheshire. That is why I have sent a survey to the people of Winsford to engage the community about what they want in their town.

The town centre has undergone a major change in the past several months. The owners of the shopping centre have had the Queens Parade part of the centre demolished and now the land is clear of rubble and levelled.

So far we have had a great response to the survey and will be working through all the responses to see what the people of Winsford want for their town.
