Audlem and District History Society History Shorts

The purpose of the Society is to record local history and foster historical knowledge.

In normal times, we explore a wide range of historical subjects at our meetings and on visits. The social side is important, too, bringing together people from different backgrounds but with a common interest in history.

In this period of social distancing which, for many people, will actually mean unprecedented physical and social isolation, we've been thinking about how the society might continue to make a positive contribution to people's and village life.

One idea has been to produce a series of History Shorts. Our aim is modest, encouraging people to write a short piece about, for example, an item, a place, a person or an event that has made an impact on them. It could be a historic property; great grandma's mangle; an unspoilt or industrial landscape; a vanished occupational group; transport; a sports event; recreational activities...... the list is endless.

Audlem Online has kindly offered to reproduce the History Shorts. We have several in the queue already but would be pleased to receive submissions from anyone with a story to tell. 200-400 words is about the ideal length and, wherever possible, please include photographs. The Society reserves the right to edit any submissions.

Please send your piece to jeremy@jeremynicholls.co.uk
