Alternative Meats business opens

With all the recent excitement about Audlem's new butchers, Oxtail & Trotter, we overlooked another new meat business that has set up locally.

Established over 12 years ago, Alternative Meats produce a range of meats that includes the the more exotic (eg. Kangaroo, Ostrich and Crocodile) as well as non-mainstream British-farmed products that make up their Deliciously Different Range.

This selection includes Rose Veal, Welsh Wagyu, Herdwick Mutton, Cheshire Goat and Water Buffalo. The full selection can be seen on their website – click on the link below the photo - enabling the supply of these meat products direct to the doorstep.

Last month, Alternative Meats Ltd. moved to newly converted premises at Combermere to the west of Audlem and have already begun to trade, with a full EEC operating license for their new butchery and cold stores.

The growing business had been looking to increase their capacity and to improve the quality of their working conditions – the new site at the Park View Business Centre, on the edge of the Combermere Estate has provided the solution.

On the catering side of their business, Alternative Meats are suppliers to Jamie Oliver and other celebrity chefs, such as Tom Aikens and Sat Baines. They have been nominated as Rick Stein's Super Food Heroes and have produced their own Cookbook, published by Harper Collins, which was listed in the top ten South African cook books of 2010.  The Exotic Meat Cookbook, A – Z Antelope to Zebra is available on Amazon.  

In November 2011 directors Jeannie Edgar and Rachel Godwin were awarded the Golden Fork in the Great Taste Awards for the most successful First Time Entrant. The two ladies are no stranger to Radio and TV, having appeared with Ainsley Harriott on Ready Steady Cook and recently with Matt Tebbutt on Market Kitchen's Big Adventure.
