Over the past months I have been in negotiation for the Big Tree. And now I am delighted to say that we have secured it!

Over the past 10 years or so , we have been very fortunate in obtaining the tree from a plantation located in Hunterston. In the first place it was owned by Paul Williams and subsequently bought by Keith & Karen Fell.

This year it was bought by Graham and Angela Allinson of Hunterston and they too have been gracious enough to allow us to harvest the tree . This is truly fantastic news as we can select the best tree possible

Also being so close to the village, transportation is much easier. In this exercise Pete Hollinshead, a trained Tree Surgeon, will cut the tree on the 12th November . Richard Furber will again be there with tractor and trailer  and we will then bring it in to the yard of Jonathan Gleave in readiness for being erected in the Square on the 19th.

Then the tasks of dressing the tree with thousands of lights will be undertaken by Phil Baker  and Mike Haines – using a free cherry picker donated to ADAS for the weekend.

All in all a very superb effort involving many volunteers .

Each year we have a sponsor for the tree and this year the Sponsor for the Big tree is Hartley Rushton and his family of Hunterston .
