The ADAPT Energy Group would like to draw everyone's attention to items that might be of interest:

Solar PV Users Group. Would you be interested?

The government’s ‘Feed in tariff’ initiative has seen a rapid increase in the number of Solar PV installations in the Audlem area. This has introduced many people to the generation of renewable energy for the first time.

ADAPT’s Energy Group is considering facilitating the formation of a User Group for solar PV system owners, which could allow users to compare experiences and support each other in getting the most out of their investment. 

Issues covered could include:

• Altering patterns of electricity use to maximise benefit.


• Choice of types of electrical appliance.


• Using power wisely


• Shading issues


• Cleaning of panels


• Inverter experience.

Linking local people with this common interest could be helpful to all those involved, and help build confidence in this and other renewable energy technologies.

Provided there is sufficient interest, we are proposing initially to hold a meeting in Audlem following the format below;

• Short presentation on the technology and the issues associated with it.


• An open discussion of topics of interest.


• Agreement and planning of next steps.

Energy Efficiency Update

The Green Deal

The government’s flagship energy efficiency programme, ‘The Green Deal’ received the green light on 11 June 2012, with the publication by The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) of its responses to the consultation which was set in motion over 6 months ago.

The legislative processes are now underway to allow the Green Deal to go live in the Autumn of this year.

Under the Green Deal, finance can be provided to households and businesses for the application of energy efficiency investment measures, and the money invested is paid back with the energy bills for the property.

The ‘Golden Rule’ of the scheme is that the repayments cannot exceed the savings achieved, so the property holder is no worse off than before.

A list of 45 possible measures qualifying for Green Deal funding has now been published, and 22 organisations have already signed up to be first Green Deal Providers. Eligible measures include investments such as loft insulation, wall insulation or a replacement boiler.

It is intended that these providers will be able to be formally registered from August, followed by the scheme launch in October 2012 so that the first Green Deals can be in place from January 2013.

Linked to the Green Deal is an obligation on energy suppliers (ECO) to provide additional funding for those most in need and for homes which are harder to heat.

Launch of ‘Energy Saving Advice Service’

A new telephone advice service was launched by government on 2 April 2012 to assist householders with energy efficiency questions.

It is operated by The Energy Saving Trust, with Careline Services. The number to ring is 0300 123 1234, and full details and an e-mail advice link can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/savingenergy.
