On September 7th the 2nd XI played out their second draw of the season with a Wilmslow Wayfarers team that still harboured thoughts of a late push for promotion from Division 4. Unlike June's run-fest between the teams when more than 500 runs were scored this was a much more attritional affair as the game ended in a draw.

Electing to bat on a slow low wicket, Wayfarers had reached 59 for 1 off the first 30 overs, all bowled by Dave Parry and Roy Wild before Dan Wright and Jorge Williams decided on a far more enterprising approach to the match. The latter smashed five huge sixes and the score lurched forward to 154 whereupon the last four wickets fell for 3 runs, with Parry taking the last two wickets in two balls. Wild took 1 for 34, Lyndon Woodcock 3 for 28, Rob Chadwick 1 for 38 and Parry 3 for 48 with a potential hat-trick on the cards in the next match.

Zar Ahmed and skipper Danny Thorburn also made a circumspect start to the Audlem reply before the skipper fell for 13. He was a victim of the ball keeping low which planted seeds of doubt in the minds of the remaining batsmen and with Andrew Jinks (1), Rob Chadwick (0) and Paul Thorburn (2) all falling quickly, Audlem were in a mild spot of bother at 45 for 4.

Phil Backes hit an aggressive 16 before succumbing to a low shooter and Jake Rowe (0) soon went the same way. Meanwhile, at the other end Ahmed had been composing one of his more patient innings when he succeeded in injuring both himself and Leo North (5) in the latter's run-out. With no chance of a win, Ahmed and Parry (7 not out) played for the draw.

However, after 45 overs of Boycott-like application, with one over left to play Ahmed played probably his worst shot of the season and was bowled for 42 by one that didn't keep low. His stickability had however been vital for his team and 109-8 meant a share of the spoils with Wayfarers' hopes of automatic promotion dealt a fatal blow.

Wayfarers gained 10 points and Audlem 7 to remain in sixth place with one match remaining.
