20,000 and going strong

It will not have escaped eagle-eyed readers that AudlemOnline recently published the 20.000th article since the inception of the website in August 2005. This represents something like four articles per day over nearly 13 years.

And not all of them have been about missing pets!

The very first article on August 2nd 2005 described the Transport Festival – "Audlem's Festival of Transport took place on Sunday 31 July. The grand parade of over 250 historic and classic vehicles drove through the village and were then assembled on the football pitch. Large crowds enjoyed examining the many fascinating examples of cars, commercial vehicles, tractors and motor cycles. The event was organised by the Audlem Special Event Team (ASET). "

And the next was a familiar topic of unwanted development – "Audlem Parish Council met on Monday 1st August and discussed a range of local issues. The Council approved a press release describing the property developer Muller as arrogant following his failure to attend a meeting to discuss the controversial Canalside development. 120 residents did attend the packed meeting in the Public Hall two weeks ago and many were highly critical of Mr Muller and his plans." – the Kingbur Place development by the Co-op was eventually built and is now part of the village scene.

AudlemOnline went "officially" live on the 25th August 2005 and has not missed a day with a news item since – Bob Cartwright, the driving force behind the website in its early years, was adamant that news items were what makes a website alive and popular and although unfortunately Bob is unable to contribute as much as he would like nowadays for health reasons, the current editors continue to try to carry on his established tradition.

So your editorial team today is Alvar Jones, Chris Warburton and John Tilling who take on the daily editorship more or less in weekly rotation, ably supported be all those who send in items of news and events. And we have recently added Jean Stainthorpe to the team – Jean is concentrating on the more static information on the website to do with businesses, clubs and societies which we recognise has been rather neglected over the years as we all chase the headline news events.

If there is anyone out there who would like to "have a go" at a news item or two, to help to produce the website day-to-day, we would be delighted to hear from them!
