Unfortunately there has been a lack of Audlem CC's 1st XI reports in recent weeks, so here is a round-up of the missing matches in July. These have been gleaned from the Cheshire Cricket Alliance webpage.

Port Sunlight – 13th July

The league leaders were the visitors to the Gorse Croft and, in a thrilling match, won by 1 wicket. Andy Rothwell was Audlem's star batsman scoring 71 in just 82 balls. He and Richard Wilson added 43 for the second wicket and Rothwell and Qhama Matthews shared a seventh-wicket stand of 83 as Audlem were all out for 184.

Port Sunlight appeared to be coasting to victory at 158 for 5 but four wickets by skipper Callum McIlveen meant that the visitors still needed seven runs with only one wicket remaining. Unfortunately for Audlem Danny Van Der Berg (76 not out) hit the winning runs. McIlveen finished with 6 for 43.

Audlem gained 15 points and Port Sunlight 25

Offerton – 20th July

A trip to Stockport proved disastrous as the home side won by 5 wickets. Audlem batted first and only Andy Rothwell (22), Chris Shenton (10) and Andy Capper (10) managed to score double figures as the visitors were all out for 80. Bilal Zafar proved to be unplayable as he returned figures of 8 for 39.

Despite Callum McIlveen taking three early wickets, Offerton raced to victory in just 25 overs to claim the maximum 25 points, whilst Audlem gained just 5.

Styal – 27th July

After losing two games on the trot the 1st XI got back to winning ways as they thumped visitors Styal by 141 runs. Rob West scored 95 off just 59 balls and he was ably supported by Chris Shenton (49), Kemal Toraman (31) and Tayeef Hussain (30) as Audlem rattled up 272 for 5 declared off 34 overs.

In their reply, despite a solid 54 from Steve Barrett, the visitors were all out for 131. Callum McIlveen (3 for 23) Hussein (3 for 11) and Stuart Elkes (2 for 39) were the most successful bowlers, whilst West rounded off a great day by taking the other wicket.

Audlem gained 25 points and Styal 5.

League Position at the end of July

Following these three matches the 1st XI remains in third place in Division 2, but had slipped to 33 points behind second-place Holmes Chapel, who had won all their three corresponding matches.

There is no information yet on last Saturday's match at Bowdon Vale. Tomorrow the 1st XI entertain seventh-place Knutsford at the Gorse Croft. The match starts at 1.30 pm.
