Hello Lou, yes, we have had two or three cold calls on loft insulation. The ones we have had emanate from a company down on the south coast, Bournemouth I seem to recall, and were for spray foam insulation which has a poor reputation and can result in devaluing the property. I formally requested that the company remove our name from their database, but without success.

I think Paul's link is to the Report of the Planning Officer to the Planning Committee in which he recommended approval. This report was then considered by the committee at a hearing. I attended the hearing . It was adjourned for an acoustic survey.

Members of the planning committee were unimpressed that the environmental health officer did not even attend to answer questions on noise – which was surprising as that was one of the main issues. One member pointed out that rural venues are of course attractive for weddings but the real issue was the noise that would travel for long distances.

It was noted that an acoustic survey had been requested but not done. In fact Hankelow PC had been one of those requesting one.

There was also concern that Cheshire East had recently been subject to a complaint of maladministration over another wedding venue which was passed without an acoustic survey and which generated noise.... and it then took local residents 11 (eleven) years to get any enforcement action taken. The planning officer told the committee that despite the lack of an acoustic survey they could simply rely on the environmental health officer's 'judgment'. Following a vote the committee declined that invitation and refused to proceed without a survey.

The planning officer also introduced new points in support of the application that were not in his original report (unless I missed them) for example, that "the prevailing wind" would abate any noise.

I am yet to see any acoustic survey.

If any local resident would like to discuss how we might be able to obtain our own report which will show the actual effect that the noise will have on local homes, feel free to get in touch. Eleven years does seem an awfully long time to wait if the acoustic survey prepared by the environmental health officer ( presumably in conjunction with the applicant) says that there really is nothing to be concerned about.

The AOL team have written and published some very good and relevant articles this week that will have rung true with many of us who have been or still are involved with village projects alongside the Parish Council. I also agreed with the many positive statements regarding the value of Parish Councillors – themselves being volunteers.

The comment that particularly gelled with me in yesterday's 'Volunteers and Project' article was the clause:
"The key point is that this Working Group is given a broad objective and then left to get on with it, within some given budgetary constraints. Such working groups can work much more quickly and more flexibly than the Parish Council itself with its rigid monthly timetable and highly formalised procedures",
The numerous examples summarised in the article clearly demonstrated the repeated success of this strategy.

I too read about the decision with interest. I especially found the inference that no local resident is entitled to undisturbed sleep before midnight on any day of the week enlightening. I attended a wedding at a similarly located venue a few years back where as a result of planning objections, the owner had installed a very sophisticated soundproofing system whereby once you had passed through several doors to reach the adjoining garden, no sound at all could be heard from the dance floor so local residents were not disturbed at all. Perhaps The Parkes will provide a similar system? As for Bob Fusart's final comment, experience has taught me that for anything connected with Cheshire East's Planning Department or indeed Cheshire East itself, the only possible response is invariably extreme cynicism.

Well stated! Bob Cartwright would have been proud of you. I wish AOL team well in their quest for answers. But on evidence of the last few years I'm not holding my breath. Maybe we need to involve Jackie Weaver???

I read with interest the Planning decision on the Parkes. Whilst it all sound pretty good and reasonable, who is going to monitor that the criteria regarding number of guests and the time limits are observed. As with all these things, it is inevitable that 'mission creep' will ultimately prevail and before we know it the number of guests will slowly rise and the hours of operation extend. Me a cynic? Never!

Yes work has already started. It is cordoned off with a metal fence, trees cut down, hedgerow removed. A large area has been filled with soil covering the rabbit warrens etc. a ramp from existing works has been created for the digger.
It was a haven for wildlife and untouched since the trains stopped running.

I know there was quite a bit of interest in both the original and amended planning application for The Parkes as a wedding venue . Planning Cttee heard the application on 9th February, link to decision below suggest cut and paste.
