Brian Bugeja on Her Majesty the Queen

10th September 2022 @ 8:04am

Suzanne, the flag was lowered as much as possible on the Thursday. If the flag is lowered any further, it would snag against the church stonework.

The editors are absolutely right. Good call.

Suzanne Poole on The Queen

9th September 2022 @ 2:21pm

Why was the flag on the church not flying at half mast when passed by this morning at 9.15am – surely there is someone willing to go up and lower it. ( apologies if it had now been lowered).

I think Ann you have missed my point, I do not think that Audlem online can add anything new to what has been said about the Queen, however they could have the common decency to pay tribute to her and give thanks for her service.

Ann Tilling on Her Majesty the Queen

Like many I was saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She has been a constant for most of my life and certainly for any under 70's.
The glue that has, to date, held the Commonwealth together, along with the work of countless unnamed officials.
It does puzzle me though that people demand to know why Audlem Online has not put up an official announcement. Given the rightful blanket coverage of her life and death in the media, researched and prepared over the years, it is hard to see just what a local online site could have added . I will find the muffled bells moving , and think the response from the church swift and hopefully comforting for those who attend.

Just wondering what's happened to Audlem online's tribute to Her Majesty the Queen?

Hi Andrew and thanks,

Nic's email should have read: nicgoodwin@stormgreen.co.uk but you probably worked that out anyway.

Good luck with your quest.

Has anyone lost a grey & white chicken? I've spotted it roaming about in Monks Lane this morning. Last seen heading up the drive of The Parkes.

We used Jim (01270 528490) but he had to be persuaded to come all the way from Cholmondeley! Did a great job though.

Celia Bloor on Bonells yard

if you look in history archive and put in Bonell as key word you should see 2 photos of little heath green and the buildings. Lovely one of a steam wagon too.

Can anybody please recommend a Mole Catcher in the area?

Thanks :-)

Geraint Davies on Audlem Fete

2nd September 2022 @ 12:24pm

What a lovely, heartwarming article on the village fete by Vanda today with a set of pictures which captures the atmosphere of that fine day when everyone went about with a smile on their face and felt a sense of pride in where we live. Friends from Market Drayton came over and were full of praise at our wonderful village (town?) Very many thanks to all.

Peter Hough on Audlem Fete

We cycled in from Buerton for the fete, and thought it was brilliant! Well done to all the volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort on behalf of the village...

Nigel Mottershead on Spiked Chain

2nd September 2022 @ 10:52am

Hi Kevin (Errington) Thanks for the info about your photo of Bonnell's on the Yesteryear Gallery. That's really clear and shows the size of the business at Little Heath.
I am told at one time – before the 1960's photo that you have posted , that they operated steam engines for agricultural contracting from the same site.
I remember things like yards scrapers for sale from there too.
Interestingly on page 1 of the same gallery is a photo of a local well known resident's house with a rocket through the roof! I wonder who that could be??
Thanks again.
Nigel.

Jane Danskin on Spiked chain

2nd September 2022 @ 10:38am

I remember there was a penny farthing bike outside Moseleys when I was little.

Roland Turner on Spiked Chain

2nd September 2022 @ 10:24am

As a recent resident of Audlem, (nearly 5 years) but only a few months younger in age than Billy I have followed the memories and reminiscing over the spiked chain fence with interest. I am a little bemused however that it all started from an ad I put on AOL buy/sell a few days ago advertising a length of spiked chain. I am glad it started such an interesting debate, however I can't miss this opportunity to try and promote and sell the said chain. A tenner for such nostalgia must be a bargain!
