Rachel Bailey on Airband in Audlem

3rd January 2023 @ 10:41am

Thank you for sharing your experience of Airband to date Carol; regrettably it is not dissimilar to that of other residents in Audlem Ward. I have just received a written response from Cllr Mannion as to how many properties in CE have benefited from this scheme, which is,
"The Digital Cheshire team have confirmed that one-third or 997 of all connections in this phase relate to premises in Cheshire East. The remaining two thirds were connections in Cheshire West and Chester premises in line with the contracted programme.

The deployment work for the next phase is underway and this is exclusively in Cheshire East. Currently the work is focussed on building the network backbone and the installation and connecting new cabinets. Actual new premises connections are expected to commence sometime in the new year, (late January /early February)".

To date, I know of only one property which may have been connected by this scheme. I am conscious that Airband attended Buerton Parish Council last year and I hope that will attend Audlem in the near future.

Thanks to the AOL editors for their new year's good wishes yesterday. On behalf of all of us who daily enjoy reading AOL, I would like to sincerely thank them for their unstinted efforts in keeping us so well informed and entertained throughout the year.
Very many thanks, Sue Davies

Robin Price on Bank Holiday Tyre Fitting?!

1st January 2023 @ 4:51pm

Long shot, but does anyone know of a mobile tyre fitter who might have availability in Audlem tomorrow (2nd Jan)?

Fell victim to a nasty pothole between Boars Head and Dagfields...

Thanks!

Billy Gibbons on Christmas Tree Collection

31st December 2022 @ 10:18pm

As someone who hasn't had a Christmas Tree in his house since 1994 and won't have one again, you'd think this wouldn't bother me but...can someone answer Susans question please?
I know what it's like to have a question on here unanswered and, it's not nice.

Happy New Year everyone.

Jan Campbell on Thankyou

31st December 2022 @ 9:51am

Heartfelt thanks to everyone in the local community who helped me in so many ways following my accident in July.
Your kind messages, phone calls, gifts, flowers, cards, offers of lifts, shopping and of course time taken to visit really helped in keeping up my spirits and moving towards recovery.
Your support, kindness and friendship are greatly valued and I am so pleased to be a part of such a caring community that is Audlem.
Sincere good wishes to you for 2023.

Carol Palin on Airband in Audlem

Thank you Rachel for requesting information from Cheshire East Council regarding the installation of Fibre Broadband to the area although I live in Buerton, not Audlem and look forward to any answers to your question. When Airband first made their presentation at Buerton Parish Council I found their website, out in our postcode and was informed that fibre broadband was coming to our street of 9 properties all the same postcode. Some time later we found that there was an appropriate connection point just 3 doors away and the Airband operatives advised that we should be online by Christmas. We're not! A letter was received from Airband dated 22nd November which asked that we get in touch for more information.. I forwarded an email four time before I got this reply 'At this point in time, there is not a service that I can offer.
We are investigating the connection for the 4G in the area, as this is not Airband network, until we are satisfied that it will provide a stable enough service we will not be placing new orders. I'm sorry this isn't the news you wanted." It certainly isn't.

Rachel Bailey on Airband in Audlem

Interested to see that AoL has shared the CEC press statement of 12 December 2022, referencing the "success of 'Airband'" across Cheshire as a whole. I questioned Cllr Mannion the CE Council Meeting two days later, 'as to how many households in CE have benefitted'? He didn't know and promised a 'written answer', which I still await!

Celia Bloor on Shop local

23rd December 2022 @ 6:59am

Could not agree more with the idea that online shopping is a hassle. My system is to find who stocks the item and then go there. Just contemplating a couple of 2nd hand pamphlets from a Crewe shop which is charging £5 shipping on each. I shall just ring and go there when convenient!

Immaculate condition, medium mattress. Collection only I am afraid. Only changing as now require orthopaedic one.

Anne Passey on Dangerous driving through the village

22nd December 2022 @ 2:47pm

The driver of a white Peugeot Partner van needs to take much more care when driving through Audlem as they almost knocked my partner off his feet whilst we were walking on the PAVEMENT thus morning. Thankfully he is just bruised and a bit shocked but it could have been much worse if the person they ploughed into had been frail. An apology might be helpful too rather than ignoring the impact and driving off!

Peter Morgan on Book

22nd December 2022 @ 12:27pm

Compliments of the season to you Billy. Sadly, we have lost the ticket for that 'real' Billy Gibbons dance band, otherwise I would have dropped it off for you long ago. I do have a photograph of the original somewhere in the 5,000 or so images stored away in the four various back-up systems I now employ and I'm sure that sometime in the next few years I will come across it again, or perhaps even, find the original ticket. Who knows, but be assured that as soon as I find it, I will hotfoot it over to you in time for- Christmas maybe, but which year? The question may not yield the answer, but I know that you will understand...

Billy Gibbons on Book

19th December 2022 @ 5:53pm

I've almost finished my first book. It's taken me nearly 20 years which you may think is a long time but, I've nearly finished colouring it in and I didn't go over the lines much and I used 3 different crayons and everything!
On another note; I've come to the part in my 'real' book that needs pictures etc and as such, this is a shout out to Mr Peter Morgan to see if he still has the (real) Billy Gibbons dance ticket. If I could borrow it so the publisher can take a picture of it, that would be great.

Many thankings. ;-)

Peter Morgan on A little riddle

18th December 2022 @ 9:44pm

Colin's 'Go to' bus observations are interesting and yet lacking balance, as he does not include any passenger number observations for the standard bus service that I regularly see travelling through the village, empty, yes empty. So to be fair Colin, employ more researchers, possibly put them on the buses, and give readers the full picture for a change.

Peter Morgan on Bird Scarer

18th December 2022 @ 9:31pm

During the winter period the great majority of dairy farms house their herd indoors, where they are fed. The cattle need plenty of ventilation and the birds, particularly starlings, take advantage of the openings to enter the cattle sheds and feast on the cattle feed. This spreads disease as birds do what birds do and farmers are forced to take measures to scare off the birds. They do this with various forms of bird scaring devices, taped 'birds in distress' noises, laser beams and loud bangs outside the sheds. This is a legally permissible operation within the time frames previously expressed on Chatbox, provided that they have a genuine reason for it and are not just using it as an excuse to annoy the neighbours..

As someone who has just moved into Salford this Chatbox has solved the riddle of the loud noises! Many thanks for the explanation.

If I may take a moment to be serious,,,,,,,, instead of my usual pass takes (there's auto-correct working properly for you for once). It's the time of year when some people amongst us can feel particularly lonely and maybe forgotten, they could sit for days without speaking to anyone and have no real contact with the outside world and we must not let this happen anymore, it's 2022 and we have the collective power to make it stop. So next time you see the 'Go Too Everywhere Empty' bus driver, give him/her/it/them a cheery wave or maybe even a good thumbs up. But be very careful with the thumb, as it may be mistaken as a sign that you want to be picked up, and not only could that overly excite the driver but you could end up being sent to Bunbury when you only wanted to go to Beamans.
