Thanks AoL for sharing details of tomorrow's Go-Too Bus Event so promptly.
I wish we had been given more notice but maybe we can showcase the importance of the service to local businesses and residents in the Audlem area ourselves!
The Go Too Bus is a year old – Thank you for your support!
It's very short notice but, Cheshire East Council have just announced an event to celebrate the first anniversary of the On-demand bus service, for Thursday 6 October in Nantwich!
Now in its second year of operation, the service has clocked up 10,000 passenger journeys since its launch last October, helping to reduce isolation in villages in a wide area south of Nantwich.
It also contributes to reducing carbon emissions and car dependency, while helping to promote more active travel. The service enables people living in the area to enjoy easy access to leisure, shopping, work and healthcare, such as GP appointments.
Research by Ansa Transport, which operates the service, found that 68 per cent of users would not have used another bus service before 'go-too' took to the road, while 45 per cent said 'go-too' made their journey easier. More significant was the finding that 61 per cent of passengers had access to a car.
The service operates between Bunbury, to the north west of Nantwich and Buerton to the south east, taking in Audlem, Hankelow, Marbury, Wrenbury, Brindley and Bulkeley. No commercial services operate in this part of the borough. It uses intelligent routing technology to plan the most cost and time-effective route, instead of a fixed route followed by commercial operators.
A 'mini roadshow', to generate more awareness and take-up for the service, is planned for Thursday 6 October. It will take place outside Nantwich Civic Hall from 9.30am-2.30pm, when staff will be on hand to answer questions from the public and library staff will be promoting the 'go-too' service through bus-themed readings and songs for children. Staff will also visit a dementia support centre and Swanley Bridge Marina.
The 'go-too' bus service is funded by the Department for Transport's rural mobility fund in partnership with Cheshire East Council and Ansa Transport. Users can request the service by downloading and using the 'go-too' app on their smartphone, or they can call the booking line on 0300 123 5103. Customers can set up a payment card to pay their fares.
The service operates with two 'midi' 16-seater buses, both with low-floor access for wheelchair users, prams and pushchairs from 7am-9pm Monday to Saturday. It is part of a three-year trial costing £1.25m.

Sorry, I meant Simon, not Jamie. Easy mistake to make if your as daft as I am and you were watching a Table Tennis match on Youtube at the same time you were typing. Have you played Table Tennis against Jamie by the way? He's just a bit good!
Also I was thinking about being driven through Audlem at 13mph in the back of a cattle trailer whilst knocking a tune out on some plastic containers. No wonder I got the names mixed up.
Sorry about that. ;-)
10% Jamie?!?!? 10%????!!?!? Er....your not wrong! I thought there was more of us than that but...seemingly not. Can't argue with statisctic....statisteets....statisteect.... facts. But wait; I've been on that there Google and discovered I'm NOT a Tree Sloth for reasons I dare not disclose on here (but have done on Viz, but they won't print it. That tells you something!) so Google may not be all it's cracked up to be. Unless of course..I am in fact, a Tree Sloth.....
Well said Brittany ! Maybe certain folk should start up their own vegetarian restaurant and find out just how " easy " it is ? Very simple to snipe from the sidelines .....anyone who has ever run a food operation will know how challenging it actually is , particularly in this tough climate of staff shortages and staggeringly high overheads .
Well said Brittany.
It must be quite a challenge to cater for the 10%, and very frustrating for them going without a bacon butty or a juicy steak burger!
2 wild peacocks in garden next to busy road, is it best to just leave them and hope they keep safe?
I felt very uneasy reading the negative reports on the Lord Combermere's menu. While many poor souls live on scraps and morsels of food caused through poverty and famine, we should be grateful that our cupboards are full and that people who work in the catering industry are valued and appreciated. I have never worked in a large kitchen but I can imagine the pressures they are under, the long hours worked when we are ready for a sit-down, the heat of the ovens and most of all, having to work to a budget. I wish the new proprietors all the very best.
Rather than slating the menu why not go and try the food first or speak to paul and ask if he can do you something else. Paul is a reasonable man who Is trying his best to accommodate and make everyone happy but then again some people just can't be pleased and may as well stay at home.
The menus that will be offered at The Lord Combermere look excellent, and we hope to come for a meal soon after reopening. A Burger might be rather good. However, I hope it comes with Monterey Jack cheese, and not the "monetary jack" listed on the menu! But seriously, a very interesting menu, and we hope all goes well.
Join us this afternoon for stories, craft, new friendships and fun!
Every Monday 1-2.30pm at Audlem Methodist Church.
Whilst I was pleased to see Paul was persuaded to offer a vegetarian menu, I'm afraid it just doesn't cut the mustard! All that is on offer is meat replacements available from any supermarket. Proper vegetarian cooking is the inventive use of vegetables to provide deep flavoured natural food. There are vegetarian and vegan cook books aplenty – I have a bookcase full- so it only requires a little effort to seek out nice meals -or a visit to other local hostelries to see what they offer. Whilst the previous incumbents did make the effort to come up with a full page of veggie and vegan offerings, unfortunately judging by the several dishes I tasted, they needed someone with some knowledge on how to cook them. I was hoping for something better but it seems I will be staying away from the Lord Combermere for sometime yet. However I do wish the new proprietor success as the village needs its centre pin but dragged screaming into the 21st century!
Hopeful for change!
I was under the impression that we had a new group of parish councillors who promised big changes, with a emphasis on communication. However we have had no minutes or agendas posted on the parish council website since July. What is going on?
Is there a bonfire and fireworks this year in the village
It might be Ideal at Turnpike field where it used to be held many years ago
Would be great to see the field used for something other than a dog toilet
Well, I did vow never to post anything on chat box ever again but now I have to. How great for a vegetarian to have a full choice on a menu. Thank you Paul, we will be regular visitors
A friend of mine lost her keys walking from the car park to the Marina today. The keyring has a Welsh flag and a picture of grandchild. If anyone finds I'd be very grateful.
hi can anybody recommend a good mobile mechanic
2 wild peacocks in garden but near busy road, is it best to just leave them
Wholeheartedly agree with Judy & Karen –
It is my understanding that AOL is helping to support the community and local businesses by publishing this type of information. So no need for the silly comments and yes, I have got a sense of humour , but not when hardworking businesses are the punchline.
Thank you team Braids for all that you do for the village.
JUDY IS SO CORRECT IT. iT SEEMS THT ANY SUCCSSFUL ENTERPRISE, EVENT NOW ATTRACTS MOANERS; tHIS IS TRADITIONALY A HAPPY FRIENDLY VILLAGE. PERHAPS THOSE WHO ONLY ENJOY MOANING AND CRITISING COULD AT LEAST GET THERI FACTS CORRECT FOR STARTERS.SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS lOCK
CHRIS
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the team at Braids who are not only prolific and dedicated fund raisers for all sorts of good causes, but offer a hairdressing service that regularly goes above and beyond, in terms of serving our community. They should be applauded more often in my view, and if they are regularly featured on AOL it is only to their credit. Like most of the village, we'd much rather read about Braids, than some AOL contributors who regularly bore us with their inane ramblings – and I don't mean the exploits of ARS, whose contributions I also hugely enjoy.
Thankfully because of the village website, communication re cancelled or DNA appts., are quickly filled. Such a useful tool when running any business don't you think. If its there and it works, why not use it?
Looks like you spoke too soon there John – the balance of the universe was restored at 4:04 pm.
Personally, I miss the sausage etc updates that we used to get daily from the Oxtail and Trotter under previous management.
I note that there is an appointment free now on Saturday morning if Mr. Breedon needs tonsorial attention. I myself would have snapped this up had I not a more pressing engagement at Leighton.
Steve – I'm sure Warner Baxter would be able to help you – you can find his contact details in the Businesses / Home Services & Trades / Decorating section of AOL.
