Sonia Kay on Repair cafe

15th January 2023 @ 8:54am

I've just read the article about setting up a repair cafe. I'm afraid I don't have any skills to offer but I would love to be able to come along and learn from other people. I think it's a terrific idea. Hope it gets off the ground.

I suppose we are all guilty on of always assuming someone else will do it. However if everyone did it individually that would only add additional cost to us in the long run and even longer delay. Perhaps a single petition prepared by our own Mistress of Words Stephanie and signed by all people within the Parish and as many from 'beyond' as possible would have a much better chance of success. This would enable Colin to concentrate on 'Go To' as we have a reasonably adequate bus service already, which is likely to be taken off due to it. At least the regular service has a timetable and sticks to it. Be like me get a shopping trolley, whisky flask in zipped pocket at front, no worries of being stopped by police, bus pass in hand. What more could you ask for – become a twirly
ps I do also support the shops in the village before anyone starts up

bob fousert on Council budget consultation

14th January 2023 @ 12:08pm

HEALTH WARNING! This consultation is 314 pages long and whilst ideal for insomniacs, should not be read whilst operating machinery or undertaking dagerous peruits.
Interesting to note that CE claim that they are ahead of target to becme carbon neutral by 2025, but fail to take into account that any savings will be more than offset by traffic disruption and delays caused by the lamentable state of our roads. A situation set to become much worse as the proposal is to reduce the highways budget for 2023/24 by £0.8m. Might as well not hold our breath or get too excited about the possibilty of flood repairs to Green Lane and by Corbrook this side of 2033!

The work in Chapel Lane is by United Utilities & not Cheshire East..
Be interested to know if Cheshire East have considered using no dig technology, that is a mole, to simply run a new drainage pipe from Swanbach Ford to the Brook as you cross the county boundary. Could be a considerably cheaper way of solving the continual flooding?. I did is FOI request last year & only 22 people had reported the flooding as an issue over the last few years. Need more people to report & Parish Council to get involved?.

Anne Crutchley on Chapel Lane

The closure of Chapel Lane is due to water pipe replacement work which has been taking place throughout the area.

Council tax payers may want to give feedback on CECs budget consultation for the forthcoming year.

Among the proposals are 4.9% rise in council tax, a charge for brown/green bin collections, reductions in green space maintenance and a reduction in highways spending.

Rachel Bailey on Go Too Bus

13th January 2023 @ 9:58pm

I have received the following message with regard to the CE Go-Too Bus:
"I regret to inform you that the go-too bus service will not be running tomorrow, 14 January due unexpected driver sickness. We apologise for any inconvenience an"d assure you that we are doing everything to resolve this issue.

For the benefit of passengers, we will be sending a 'push message' to all account holders along with a message on the go-too website. We are also contacting anyone with an existing booking to explain the circumstances."

Thanks, Christopher.

As I understand it from a recent item on AudlemOnline News by ward councillor Rachel Bailey, CE Highways have said that they do not have the funds to repair the drain at what I call Swanbach Ford, which floods after rain.

I don't know the details of the repairs needed in Chapel Lane, but assume CE Highways have concluded that they would be far cheaper than the repair required at Swanbach Ford.

It would be interesting to know whether anyone has put in a Freedom of Information request to CEC to discover the costs of the repair needed at Swanbach Ford.

It would also be interesting to know whether anyone has contacted the local MP about the repeated flooding. I haven't because I'm not one of his constituents.

I'd echo what Denise, Maurice, Bob and others have said. It's been really important for me this last few months being recently widowed and to be unable to play due to bad weather and lack of indoor facilities would be quite a blow. It's perfectly possible to adapt the game to ensure no damage is done. In the unlikely event that damage did occur we would collectively cover the cost anyway, so what's the problem?

Ann Tilling on Santa's Sleigh

Heartfelt thanks Santa for your years of service. Personally I feel the village has been the beneficiary of your efforts over many, many years .
My stubby fingers preclude a list of these efforts, but next Christmas enjoy your semi-retirement.

I'd like to echo everything that Jeanette has said about the Walking Football group. We moved into the village 3 months ago, not knowing anyone. My neighbour kindly introduced me to the group and they could not have been more welcoming to a total stranger! They are a wonderful bunch, with a wicked sense of humour and very active (and often hilarious) WhatsApp group. What more could you wish for – healthy exercise and friendship? Alex the coach is excellent and certainly know how to motivate us. As a "Newbie" I really cannot see any problem with us using the Hall, perhaps someone in authority could explain the rationale for the decision?

Bruce pothole half way up Green lane about 50 yards on the Drayton side above the well known cottage with the rocket stuck in the roof several years ago.
Cannot understand why CE want to close the vey minor road running from opposite Haywards lane up to Cox bank yet continue to ignore the very real hazard of the pot hole lurking under the flood water underthe brdge.

I don't contribute to ChatBox often but felt compelled to add to the chat regarding walking football.

I do not know the background to the Public Hall refusal to allow the group in to the Public Hall (To be honest we are very happy outside but it would have been good to have indoors as a back up) but what I do know is that it is a fantastic addition to the village activities.

The sessions are held on the football field every Friday, come rain or shine, it has been one of the most welcoming and friendly groups I have ever joined. We are a mixed group of both men and women and all of a certain age, apart from one or two younger members.
Alex, the coach is brilliant and has brought us all out of our shell and improved our skills. (there is still a bit of running but we are working on that!) He has supported us to form a strong social group and we are testament to his professionalism and inclusion technics.

The people who come to the annexe on Friday mornings have the opportunity for a chat as we put our boots on and can watch us through the window, and quite a crowd of dog walkers has been known to gather!! We support the village cafes after our sessions and have progressed to a quiz team as well.

A great time is had by all and I hope that any further misunderstandings regarding the walking football and potentially other sessions within the Public Hall can be resolved.

As as friendly to the hall as table tennis , badminton.walking netball. Most beneficial to the participants of slightly advancing years who like to keep fit . Indoors played with softish ball ,trainers and listed numbers per side . I suggest the committee re visit this request and reverse their negative decision

Maurice Shenton on To whom it may concern...

Hi I also would like to know the reason for the walking football cannot be included within the hall. As an elderly peron, this sport WILL benifit my age band and many others thinking of joining a wonderful group, So why is this deamed a no go sport by the committe and by who? should I wish to enquire.

Pot hole in Cheshire St patched Hooray. Corbrook flood .I reckon is about to celebrate its 10th birthday. We must celebrate it's longevity and congrats to Cheshire East Council. Have they reached their lowest stage of incompetence I ask . Everybody knows it requires a bigger drain into the adjacent stream. Perhaps Councillor Rachel could get this problem moving.

Kevin Errington on Cheshire St Sinkholes

10th January 2023 @ 12:18pm

I have reported the various sinkholes on Cheshire St, you can't even call them potholes now.
I've requested the police to put warning cones around the one just past Emberton Way as it's depth is invisible once full of water and a cyclist or motorcyclist will suffer serious injury if they hit it.
I gave up on Cheshire East councils 'emergency ' number after 20 minutes on hold so went to fill in their online form but someone had already done it on Sunday.
Be careful out there!

Denise Harrison on Walking football

10th January 2023 @ 11:22am

I would love to know why the walking football group has been singled out. Every other activity is allowed to play in the public hall, but not us. Surely its a community hall, so everyone should be included. Its not like we will be wearing studs or using hard balls. I feel its a real let down and i am very disappointed to who has decided to not allow us. I would love to know your reasoning.

It's the one I missed to avoid! And, for info, it's on the right of the road.

Paul Cawood on Theft

9th January 2023 @ 10:35am

I'm sad to report we were victims of theft last night. A prized possession- a blue mountain bike was stolen. If anyone saw anything between 20.30 and 11.30 please let me know as it will help the constabulary. The sad part is the bike is useless. It's a downhill racing bike, it only does one thing, use gravity to go downhill quickly.
