Does anyone have a hand-held steamer that I can borrow to de-crease 11 pairs of curtains?

Andrew Carr on Replacement Windows – Recommendations?

2nd February 2026 @ 4:47pm

I need to replace some old windows in an outbuilding – I'm just looking for a budget option (no double glazing etc.) and would welcome any recommendations for local firms that offer good value! Many thanks.

Hi Clare. In answer to your post about a pet sitter. I am replying for my son. He is very likeable and trustworthy ( I would say that, but it’s true). He has looked after people’s pets before, including ducks and chickens! He has great experience with dogs, not least with our beautiful 13 year old chocolate lab whom we sadly lost recently. He’d be happy to meet you and your pets anytime. He has finished university and looking for work

Try Meakin and Sons at Pipegate

Billy Gibbons on Coal delivery

30th January 2026 @ 8:45am

I can recommend either J.Meakins Coal of Pipe Gate or Harrisons Coal of Stoke on Trent. Both deliver where you want it....just like in the old days. Rather like the Bin Men did years ago only in reverse ;-)

J.Meakins; 01630 647233
J.Harrisons; 01782 534110

"Drive on the left? I just try to drive on the road thats left......" Simon Gleave. 2026

Simon, what a brilliant quote that is and I'll be having it but I will credit you with it of course!

Not only is it brilliant, it's sadly very true.

Totally agree Peter. I drove to Nantwich last week and the repairs on the Hatherton bends are a disgrace. The back roads of Virginia are better than we have to endure here. And dont get me started on the road to Whitchurch, where driving in the middle is the safest bet.

Seemingly there seems to be no way of holding anyone to account. Drive on the left? I just try to drive on the road thats left......

Peter, try Elliot on 07907036493. He lives locally & has done various jobs for us. He's also a very agreeable young man. Regards Bob

Peter Oxley on Cheshire East Highways propaganda

27th January 2026 @ 8:40am

The message from the Cheshire East's propaganda machine today would be hilarious if not so serious. The council will seize on any passing weather excuse or named storm to justify their years of neglect of our local roads. Tom Moody the highways boss has just left to join East Mids Council (Good luck to them!) & the CEO at CEC has been absent taking sick leave...and the robust repairs claimed in the article are anything but: Just see the ones in the dip @ Hankelow; They last just 20 days before breaking up yet again! The Hatherton bends repairs look like they were done by a child with a great hump in what was a hole! The standard of repairs using the much vaunted 'Velocity patcher' are nothing more than a quick (poor) emergency fix when what is really needed is proper repair with edging, tarmac & rolling. Perhaps the council would have more resources if they stopped all the PR & bragging about their new fleet of electric vans that were simply not needed?

Any recommendations for a sole trader electrician?

Billy Gibbons on Caravan Mover

26th January 2026 @ 9:16am

Just wondering if anyone out there has moved a Static Caravan with either a Gator (a Vehicle rather than a semi-aquatic reptile) an ATV or a Quad bike and if so, might you be available to do such a thing. The caravan would need to be either pulled or pushed about 20ft approximately.

Asking for a computerless friend.

Many thanks.

Hello Paul. I can furnish you with such a thing if you'd like to get in touch with me through the usual methods.

Clare Ward on Pet/house sitting

24th January 2026 @ 6:02pm

We are looking for a friend for our cat and dog who can look after them while we are away from time to time. Our cocker spaniel is 11 years old and still buzzy and our black cat is the same age (not so buzzy but loves cuddles!). We are really looking for someone or a couple who are flexible and who love animals, who are available for a day now and again and also for a week or two when we go on holiday. We live in the Audlem area and we are happy for you to stay and look after the house while we are on holiday. Remuneration can be discussed.

Paul Burgess on (Use of) Hydraulic press required

24th January 2026 @ 4:06pm

I have to do an increasing number of repairs on cars for family, friends, and neighbours, but sometimes I need access to a hydraulic press to remove (usually) wheel bearings. I just wondered if there was anyone locally who has one, and wouldn't mind me nipping round and using it for 20 mins or so once in a while?
