Kay Hodson on Turnpike field planning permission

15th June 2023 @ 5:07pm

Thanks very much to the busybody who reported the Turnpike Field entrance as needing planning permission, which has ruined the activities planned for the organised youth groups for the summer.
An asset to the village which has been made been safer, now can't be used for the exact people that it is meant to benefit.
One person ruining lots of other people's volunteering efforts.

Colin Cliffe on Turnpike field

15th June 2023 @ 4:25pm

Well what a to do, I was just wondering what would happen now should the retrospective planning permission for change of use for the field not be granted, would the picnic benches, boardwalks, and pond fences all have to go, would the ponds have to be filled in and the frogs evicted, would the original gateway have to be restored? Let's just hope that the Parish Council now get the official approval they need because they sure don't have any more funds to throw at it, do they?

John long on Turnpike planning

Well the council has managed to fail the village yet again. It's clear planning was needed for this gateway yet the parish council thinking its above us all in the village felt they were above planning. How can these people be trusted to give any opinion on planning applications?

Paul Cawood on Audlem against coal and fracking

14th June 2023 @ 8:32pm

In July 2022 I had the pleasure of seeing a lecture by professor Mike Garret. Prof Garrett is the director of science at the Lovell observatory at Jodrell Bank. It's the world renowned centre of astrophysics and climate study. Mike Garrett runs it. So he knows his stuff. Prof Garrett explained in his lecture how his team, collaborating with other groups around the world, have measured the levels of carbon dioxide from over 800,000 years ago in our atmosphere until present day. The big jump is since 1958 with a staggering increase that correlates directly with fossil fuel use. He also proved that this increase has changed and is changing our climate. This was a humbling experience as we are living through the impact of our actions. So anyone who thinks the climate isn't changing due to fossil fuel use should maybe come to terms with their cognitive dissonance. The science is irrefutable. I would ask how burning more coal is going to help reverse the flooding, drought, famine and desertification that's happening.

Mike Mason on Long awaited meeting

Climate denial and punctuation denial it would appear. A heady mix. I look forward to giving this meeting a very wide berth.

I was lucky enough to attend a really excellent talk by Chris Stark CEO of the Climate Change Committee last year. The CCC is the independent body set up to advise and report to government. As with all these things, there is way more to this whole subject than ever hits the news headlines. There is a lot of really good information on their website at www.theccc.org.uk which I would thoroughly recommend for those interested in learning more on the subject.

Sarah Pendlebury on Long awaited meeting

Catherine no one is denying the climate is changing. We just don't agree with the crazy push for so called net zero and the idea that humans are the main contributors to any climate change. We are also more interested in heating our homes and feeding our children then crippling ourselves on some ridiculous ideas that are going to be of no benefit to anyone

Is this a climate change denial group?

Agree completely with the smokeless coal it's ridiculous how little heat you get out of a product that creates so much ash. Also how can a product that's had to go through a quite large industrial process to create be more "GREEN" then the natural product straight from the ground. It's much the same with a lot of these green ideas it's more about looking like somethings being done than actually achieving anything. It's as ridiculous as people being upset about the opening of the new coal mine in Cumbria a mine that's for smelting coal that's used to create the steal to make the useless wind turbines but this people just rather import that coal out of site out of mind that way it's obviously "GREEN" if it's been produced and put on a ship thousands of miles rather then from a mine in this country the hypocrisy is madness.

Looking forward to attending the meeting great to see that not everyone has fallen for this net zero nonsense I'm sure you will have a fantastic turn out well done Sarah and team keep up the work

Lynne Smith on Turnpike Field

13th June 2023 @ 9:39am

In view of the ongoing building work being carried out on the public car park resulting in reduced parking spaces and today the closure of Cheshire Street for emergency work why is Turnpike Field not being made available for additional parking? With the lovely weather attracting plenty of people it helps local businesses if more parking is available so that visitors don't drive through the village because they can't find anywhere to park.

Judley Mason on Long awaited meeting

13th June 2023 @ 7:40am

For years the natural coal Anthracite has been recommended as the best smokeless solid fuel there is. But now in its natural form it has been withdrawn from the retail market. Instead we are expected to use "ovoids" also known as "eggs" that are a blend of pulverized anthracite with some sort of filler. It is not a good substitution. For the same money you get half as much heat and twice as much ash.
What is going on?

Wes, go to BBC Sounds where there is a series called Woke: The Journey of a Word, which starts with black Americans in the 1920's and is very interesting.

Can anyone help me understand what this term "woke" means as well as what the "woke agenda" is? It all sounds rather sinister.

Billy Gibbons on flooding on Green Lane

11th June 2023 @ 8:20am

Hello Michelle; When you say 'Green Lane' regarding flooding, do you mean actually on Green Lane or at the Bridge at Swanbach? If it's the former; I have some photographs of the road and on my property during the flooding that might (only 'might' though) help your cause. Either way, good luck with it all...I hope it gets sorted. ;-)

Michelle Taylor on flooding on Green Lane

10th June 2023 @ 8:58pm

the council tells me that I should not be trying to prevent an accident. they should be doing that. never seen that yet. i did call them and within an hour we had a van arrive to manage the traffic but when i havent raised it there was no-one to organise the traffic. i have sent to audlem online the letter i received. i am guessing the rest of the community are not happy with the very weak response?

Jane Kavanagh on Help with pond

10th June 2023 @ 3:56pm

We have a 'wildlife pond' which has become choked with plants and would love to restore some clear water. Not massive but would love to enjoy watching insects on the water again and birds being able to drink/bathe. Newts are present and protected. Hope to hear from somebody local who can sort this out for us. Thank you.

Sarah Pendlebury on Long awaited meeting

10th June 2023 @ 1:02pm

At long last after much planning and organising we have a meeting planned for Audlem for coal and fracking. With just stop oil and other woke organisations more and more disrupting the lives of normal hard working people we have got together with a few interested locals to arrange our first meeting to be held at the Bridge on the 24th of this month. This is for like minded people to come together and decide a course of action to show that families and normal hard working people with electric bills to pay can have a voice against the woke agenda more and more getting the time in the news please come along if you have had enough of this ridiculous net zero no fossil fuel stupidity that the guardian would have us believe the majority of people want come stand and have a voice before we are to late

We had the great pleasure of yet again enjoying the takeaway pizza from Piccola Italian. Don't look anywhere else if you want a takeaway treat especially pizza it is by some way the best takeaway for miles top produce not just cheap profit oriented rubbish like from a lot of takeaways truly a gem in Audlems crown
