I suspect that many, but perhaps not all, Chatbox readers are aware that scammers and fraudsters can 'spoof' calling phone numbers to make them appear as if they're legitimate UK numbers.
WHICH covered this in 2019:
https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/whos-really-calling-you-an-investigation-into-the-worrying-rise-of-number-spoofing-ahAUF6c5C3UP
From an OFCOM report in March this year it appears this is still a problem:
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/scams/phone-spoof-scam
I've read that scammers can even spoof the contact number on the back of credit or debit cards.
I have just received an answer phone message from a landline number stating that my internet will be disconnected within the next 24-48 hours, due to illegal activity. There are also options to select to speak to their Executive and Technical Executive.
Please do not answer nor select any options, the number is apparently a BT landline number: 01536 720551
Would love to know what illegal activity I've been up to lately 😉😂
Just an observation but Santa's visit coincides with Englands second World Cup match on the 25th at 7.00pm!
Is there a plasterer local to Audlem who can fit plaster coving?

What is Couch to 5K?
Couch to 5K is a running plan for absolute beginners or people wanting to return to running after injury or a long period away.
The plan involves 1 run a week in a group and an additional , with a day of rest in between, and a different schedule for each of the 10 weeks.
How does Couch to 5K work?
Probably the biggest challenge a new runner faces is not knowing how or where to start.
Often when trying to get into exercise, we can overdo it, feel defeated and give up when we're just getting started.
Couch to 5K works because it starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina.
Week 1 involves running for just a minute at a time, creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable right from the start.
Who is Couch to 5K for?
Couch to 5K is for everyone. Whether you've never run before or you just want to get more active.
If you have any health concerns about beginning an exercise regime like Couch to 5K, make an appointment to see a GP and discuss it with them first.
What are the benefits?
There are plenty of benefits from getting into running. For starters, it's an easy way of improving your physical health.
Running requires little equipment, but a good pair of running shoes that suit your foot type may help improve comfort.
Running regularly will improve the health of your heart and lungs. It can also help you lose weight, especially if combined with a healthy diet.
There's evidence it may help increase bone density in some people, which can help protect against bone diseases like osteoporosis.
There are also mental benefits of running. Taking on the challenge of Couch to 5K can help boost your confidence and self-belief, as you prove to yourself that you can set yourself a target and achieve a goal.
Running regularly can also be a great stress reliever and has even been shown to combat depression.
Hi Jim,
He is due on the evening of 24 December but usually his shift carries over until the early hours of the next day... and he comes to you.
Santa's visit is usually on or about the 25th December
Can you please tell us when the Santa visit is this year ? We hope to visit.
Thanks, Jim
Hello Jenny,
Many thanks. I've sent an email, but as it came from me it will probably be in your 'Junk' box!
Bob
Hi Bob. I have Andrew's phone number. My email is jcollissmith1@gmail.com so if you contact me I will respond.
I had a scam tonight supposedly from Microsoft, locked my screen, automatic voice telling me to ring a telephone number to solve. Looked at Microsoft website and it says they would never ask you to ring.
Fortunately didn't use.
Would it be possible to have a bonfire on or near 5th November this year for us Oldies in Audlem?
We don't need display fireworks or music!!
I'm sure there are lots of older people who can't or don't want to travel miles to a bonfire, but would really appreciate one in Audlem.
I've been advised that Andrew Bradshaw is the person to speak to re Tax Advice. Unfortunately, I can't find his contact details in the AOL Directories. Can anyone help please?
Many thanks.
Many thanks for your replies.
Howard; What do you mean? They were rubbish! Haha.
John; That's a bit too clever for me. Not toooooo sure I get it. ;-)
Having said all that, I still can't believe someone who is actually on what ever comittee it is for music (unless of course, Howard and John are on said comittee) won't come on here and answer my simple question. It's almost like they don't want me to play in Audlem. Hmm...there's a thought...maybe they don't and because I'm slow on the up-take, it's taken me all this time to realise it.
If anyone has lost a black springer spaniel type dog it has just run across the fields at Laurel Bank Farm Woore Road Audlem.
Billy, The White Lion at Hankelow have Sunday evening live music sessions. Based on the duo I saw performing there a few weeks ago, I think you would be a perfect fit.
Billy – I think the answer to your oft asked question lies within the question itself....... :-)
Just wondering how long I have to ask this question for until, A; Someone answers it or, B: AOL get fed up with me asking it and ban me.
Anyway, here goes again; Regarding the music events in the Village...do you have to ask to play or, do you have to wait to be asked to play?
I thank you. ;-)
There are 5 main courses which state 'vegan option available'. It looks to me like veggies and vegans are pretty well catered for.
Ann mentions 'at least one veggie option in the lighter bites' ... yay the veggies! I'm not (yet) veggie but do prefer to eat that way if the option is there.
Might it not have been better to contact The Lord Combermere for their reaction Elizabeth? If you look though you will find at least one veggie option in the lighter bites . I wish the new management all the best.
Fully agree regarding the vegetarian options, cannot understand why it's so difficult to just offer a few. ...... its a shame as I was looking forward to the new menu too. I will probably just pop in for a drink though.
I quite agree with Geraint. It's a shame that someone's first instinct is to complain on social media and take the attitude "I won't be going there" when maybe all that's required is to speak to the Lord Combermere, who I'm sure will be happy to address the issue.
Elizabeth Hollinshead, I also looked at the Menu, does "Vegan" not satisfy your vegitarian needs?
At this time of trauma for businesses in general and pubs in particular, aren't we in Audlem lucky to be able to welcome Paul, the new landlord of the Lord Combermere, rather than have it follow the fate of the Crown and the Lamb Hotels that were converted into living accommodation in times gone by. The new menu looks lovely, and I'm sure the provision of a vegetarian option is only a small matter that can be easily adjusted
