Finn on Alternative Fuel Payment

9th March 2023 @ 3:07pm

I had an email from our electric supplier informing that we would be eligible for the £200 Alternative Fuel Payment, mistakenly we assumed it would be paid into our bank account, found out it goes as a credit on our electric account. I've now requested that it's paid to us rather than sitting in their bank.

As I understand it anyone who is not on main gas gets the payment automatically. I received mine from my electricity company (OVO) several weeks ago without applying for it. I did ring my electricity company at the end of last year, I think, and at that time they did not know how the payments would be allocated or made.

My electricity supplier is British Gas, and the £200 was paid into my electricity account at the end of February.

Ref Iain's post, we received. about a week ago, a direct payment of £200. Wasn't expecting it and hadn't claimed it, but gratefully received. (We have Calor Gas)

Scottish power put ours in the bank on 17th Feb. I thought it was automatic if the address is not on the gas grid? We were told by email around Feb 10th and I did put it on chat box then as everyone here should get it!

Hi Iain,
Thanks for very helpful your post earlier. I have just done the same and if you have the receipts and proof of payment to hand then this takes about 5 minutes.
Well worth trying and others should do so too if oil and/or wood is their heating source.
Cheers,
Nigel.

Had mine a month ago through Scottish power. No prove of oil purchase needed.

Iain Findlay on Alternative Fuel Payment

9th March 2023 @ 11:49am

After months of checking for the details of the £200 Alternative Fuel Payment Scheme for those homeowners who use alternative heating such as oil (as many residents of Audlem are), and being told that it would automatically be provided by my electricity supplier, I asked myself "how does my electricity supplier know that I have oil central heating?". In frustration, I went on gov.uk and went through the claims process for the payment. All they needed was a copy of my invoice (in my case DA Roberts) and proof of payment (credit card/bank statement). I have yet to hear anything, but am concerned that this may be another case of no one claiming a benefit that they are entitled to because no one is aware of it! People of Audlem be aware! If anyone can share their experiences of this payment, please do.

Pretty sure Sir Tom never went to Woore. Well not spelt in that way. He did however conqueror Dartmouth. I know you really couldn't make this up – or could you?! Anyhow enough rambling as my original tongue in cheek reply to praise our many village volunteers risks being lost in history.

Siôn, it seems a pity not to finish your yarn.
Black Tom Fairfax continued on from Audlem to Woore, where conversations with the loyal inhabitants made him see the error of his ways. Tom realised that Oliver Cromwell was a wrong un and refused to support his evil plan for regicide. Having seen the light, Black Tom supported the return of the Merry Monarch, even supplying the horse that King Charles rode to his Coronation.
As they say alls well that ends well.

The Royalist armies of the then King Charles were defeated on the 25th of January 1644 during the battle of Nantwich by the Parliamentarian army led by Sir Thomas Fairfax, or Tom to his friends. Following this victory in the Civil War, it is rumoured that Tom and his army headed South through the woodlands of Alder and Lime and stumbled in to the beautiful village of Aldelime. Or Audlem as we know it today. Here, having quenched his thirst at the "There will be a Bridge here one day" Tavern, he marvelled at all the activities put on by the local Folk who voluntarily gave their time for the benefit of the village. He laughed out loud at the local Pantomime before promising to visit again. And visit again he did. He was a regular at the music and arts festival but was particularly fond of Ye old Festival of Transport where it is believed his gun carriage regularly won their class. He also enjoyed a good rummage around the Charity shop where he picked up many a musket and horse brass. He also loved Prog rock, but drew the line at supporting King Crimson which is why they never headlined as planned at the 1969 Party in the Park.

Hi Helen
I suggest you leave this week to ensure you arrive on time – you know what the traffic is like.

Hi Chris, I wouldn't hold my breath on any big celebrations in the village for the Coronation, Audlem is always pretty rubbish when it comes to celebrating royal events. My family will be decamping down to Dartmouth in Devon for the weekend, as we always do for royal events, they really know how to celebrate a huge national event with bells on.

Just wondering if there were any organised village events in the pipeline to celebrate King Charles' coronation on the 6th May?

I fully endorse Simon the carpenter, he fitted a new kitchen on my old narrowboat a few years ago, did a great job. I've used him to do a few jobs since and I have always been impressed with the quality of workmanship.
Welcome to the area Simon
