bob fousert on The Parkes Planning Application Cttee Decision

24th February 2022 @ 12:37pm

I read with interest the Planning decision on the Parkes. Whilst it all sound pretty good and reasonable, who is going to monitor that the criteria regarding number of guests and the time limits are observed. As with all these things, it is inevitable that 'mission creep' will ultimately prevail and before we know it the number of guests will slowly rise and the hours of operation extend. Me a cynic? Never!

Very good points by the editorial team today. Hope you get some answers

Yes work has already started. It is cordoned off with a metal fence, trees cut down, hedgerow removed. A large area has been filled with soil covering the rabbit warrens etc. a ramp from existing works has been created for the digger.
It was a haven for wildlife and untouched since the trains stopped running.

I think you will find work has already started! – If it has it shouldn't have, and if you think it has then you should contact CE Planning and ask them why it's started

Kim Jessup on Thank you

22nd February 2022 @ 4:11pm

I would like to thank those fearless souls, who despite the rotten weather on Saturday, persevered with planting snowdrops in the church grounds. The flowers are a cheery and uplifting sight this time of year!

Geraint and Sue Davies on Thanks to AOL

22nd February 2022 @ 2:35pm

We'd like to thank the editors of AOL for the nicely balanced article 'Audlem Emerges'. It was lovely to read something which had such a positive tone. Many thanks indeed also to the team for all the work that they do to keep AOL a vibrant daily 'read' for us all.

Peter Webb on Turnpike Field Carpark

22nd February 2022 @ 12:07pm

For those who checked out my YouTube " road construction and maintenance" idea? Here's my update.
It's called tyre-derived- geo- cylinder technology. In simple terms it's a tyre filled with aggregate, it's permeable, erosion resistant and environmentally friendly. Here's how it works, (the best tyres to use are truck tyres) first the side walls are removed from the tyres. The surface area is removed to the required depth, the tyres are placed in the trench face down and nail gunned together forming a honeycomb structure. The tyres are then compacted with aggregate then covered with whatever permeable finish one requires.
This process is away of binding crushed stone aggregates together into a load bearing circular building unit which can support compressive loads and resist lateral soil pressure.
This system is being used across Europe, the USA and Canada.
Information sheets. Samuel G Bonasso P. E. President of the Reinforced Aggregate Company and Inventor of Mechanical concrete.
Maybe a local civil engineer could look into the possibility?

Devon Coffey on Black Labrador loose

22nd February 2022 @ 8:15am

Black Labrador type dog running loose in turnpike field this morning from about 8 until quarter past. Didn't look as though it had a collar on. It darted through the barbed wire fence and down onto the towpath at the coop end of the field.

Just wondering what's happening to Audlem sewage works, off Whitchurch Road.
Is it due to be extended?
I don't remember any planning permission floating around anywhere!

John Marcheselli on Tools for self relience

21st February 2022 @ 3:28pm

I support a charity that aims to improve the lives of African artisans by providing them with quality refurbished hand tools and training.
I collect unwanted or damaged hand tools and sewing machines which will be repaired and reconditioned for onward transmission to grass roots community groups in several African countries. Local men and women are trained as carpenters, blacksmiths, or seamstresses; on completion of their training they are provided with an appropriate tool kit or sewing machine, which enables them to support their future needs.
If you are able to help this cause, please contact me on 01630 655289 and I will arrange to collect your donation – very many thanks.

Chris Whalley on Corbrook Flood

19th February 2022 @ 7:51pm

I was travelling towards Audlem when said idiot in his 4 x 4 towing a trailer overtook me and 2 other cars just because he couldn't be bothered to wait. Unfortunately I didn't get his registration number either, oh for a Dashcam.

Bruce Mantle on The Swanbach ford

19th February 2022 @ 3:31pm

I've just been through the Swanbach ford on my way to Aston. I came back a different way.
In what other supposedly civilised and rich western European country would this intermittent but frequent hazard to road users have been tolerated for so long?
It is of course impossible to see any potholes beneath the muddy water, which poses a severe risk to those on two wheels.
Has the support of the local MP been sought?
The closure of the A529 to implement the A529 Safer Road Project later this year would seem to be an ideal opportunity to address this problem, but I have no confidence that CE Highways will do this, any more than they will address the hazard posed by the short, narrow stretch of the A529 immediately south of Heywood Lane.

Colin Cliffe on Normans pool gets lights

19th February 2022 @ 2:47pm

Can someone please explain to me what the hell these lights achieve??? I think we can manage to go through this constant flood in single file without this absurd traffic restriction, are these lights also costing the cash-strapped council silly money as per the £1100 plus per month Adderley lights, you couldn't make it up. Just sort the problem out and you won't need to constantly attend the site throwing money at stupid options that achieve nothing

Adrian Farrow on Corbrook Flood

19th February 2022 @ 2:22pm

As we know, the recent heavy and persistent rain has restored and refilled the flood in the Corbrook dip.
As I negotiated it with caution today, like others I saw, travelling slowly with hazard warning lights on down the centre of the road, a 4x4 raced past me in the opposite direction at speed without slowing down, squeezing between my car and the submerged verge creating a wave of water and debris that engulfed my car and the one behind.
I wasn't able to catch the number plate, unfortunately.
We smile when kids splash through puddles in their wellies, but when you are old enough to hold a driving licence, getting behind the wheel carries with it legal responsibility, not to mention commonsense.
I realise this post is probably just shouting into the wind, but it was a timely reminder for me to be aware of other hazards on the road, even whilst you are dealing with the effects of the bad weather.

Andrew O'Halloran on Loud explosions near overwater.

19th February 2022 @ 1:35pm

Hi Does anyone know the source of the loud "bangs/booms" near Overwater Marina, they are much louder than the usual Shotgun reports we usually hear.
they are fairly regular about every hour or two during the day, and have been going on for several weeks.
The nearest equivalent sound I have heard is the cannons at the battle of Nantwich,
I know some farmers use gas guns to scare birds, but these are usually about the same sound level as a regular shotgun.

Nigel Mottershead on Clean up after your dog

19th February 2022 @ 1:33pm

Yet again people are not cleaning up after their dogs.
This is happening too much and all I can say is that the individuals that don't clean up know who they are. All I can say is that they are filthy selfish people who must also live in squalor.
This is happening a lot on the path beyond Mount Pleasant – why?
It's simple really; if your dog goes to the loo then clear it up and bin it.
Please.
