Tuesday afternoon saw our Key Stage 2 children putting their language skills to good use as they experienced St James' French Café.

Waiters and waitresses from Year 6 helped to serve and take orders (in French of course!) and it was a wonderful experience for all of the children – here are a few of the things the children said:

  • "I enjoyed being served and speaking in French."
  • "I really enjoyed the Café because it was a special treat and it helped me get better at French."
  • "I wish we had French Café every day!"

Thank you to Mrs Standley and Mrs McKee, ably supported by our School Cook, Mrs Hayward and Mid Day Assistants Mrs Shannon and Mrs Gavin, who worked so hard to plan and help with this special learning event.

Our Year 6 children have experienced two Bikeability sessions this week. These sessions saw them take to the local roads with their instructors to check their road awareness and safety knowledge. I am pleased to report that the instructors that worked with the children were very impressed with their skills. Well done!

Amethyst class shared a wonderful class assembly with their families and visitors from ABC yesterday morning. I was delighted to see their confidence and enthusiasm for everything they have learnt. A highlight was their energetic 'Treasure Hunt' as part of their current topic about Priates! Well done to Mrs Hayward, Mrs Kay and all of Amethyst class for such a wonderful performance.

We welcomed parents and carers into share some of the fabulous work from our Queen's Birthday themed week yesterday. There is such a wonderful array of research, art and writing linked to this week across school – it was great to be able to share it with you!

This week's Praise Book children are:

  • Mrs Hayward's Class – Elizabeth Ellis
  • Miss Danha's Class – Matei Onicas
  • Mrs Richardson's Class – Alfie Marshall
  • Mrs Stoker's Class – Aaron Childs
  • Mr Perry's Class – Macy Gultekin
  • Mrs Bird's Class – Taye Huckle

Congratulations to you all!

Tidy Team -The winning classes this week are Diamond and Amethyst classes – well done!
The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Ruby and Sapphire – well done!

Congratulations to Cooper Bonnell, Jem Sheppard, Leo Whittaker and William Cole who all received their Bronze Active Audlem certificates in Praise Assembly on Friday morning.

A reminder that our next Active Audlem for parents, carers, staff and children will take place next Friday at 8.30am.

Well done to the three children who represented our school at the Inter School Games competition at South Cheshire College on Wednesday. The children took part in a range of sports activities and had lots of fun running and showing their skills in cricket, golf and tennis. Here are some of their comments from their experience:

"I was a champion at javelin" – Connor
"I have never run so much! I had an amazing time!" – Edward
"It was the best day ever!" – Kelsie

FASA
Thank you for the donations for our Tombola stall donated today as part of our non-uniform day for the FASA Summer Fair on Thursday 7th July. Plans for the Fair are well underway and the FASA team are planning a host of fabulous fun for all ages. We are asking for cake donations for our cake stall at the Fair to be sent in on the morning of the Fair. Thanks once again for your continued support with these events.

Last week's FASA Film Night raised £254 for school funds, thank you to the parents and staff who helped out with refreshments and supervision at this event.

Don't forget! FASA will be selling refreshments for parents and carers at our Sports Day on Wednesday 22nd June as well as providing ice-lollies for all of the children.

They will also be holding a Quiz Night at the Lord Combermere next Tuesday (21st June) at 8.45pm.

ABC Childcare
Kirsty and Lynsey from ABC joined us at our Parent Forum meeting this week and outlined the range of transition work between school and ABC planned for next year together with an overview of the wide range of services ABC offer both for pre school and Before and After School care. Please contact the team at ABC on 01270 748081 for further information.

Parent Forum
Thank you to the parents and carers who attended Thursday's meeting. Thank you also to Mrs Richardson and our eSafety Champions for an interesting update regarding how parents
and carers can keep children safe online at home.

It was agreed at the meeting that, from Monday 20th June, the school gates onto the car
park will be closed at the beginning and end of the school day to prevent the minority of parents who continue to risk the safety of pupils by driving onto and parking in the car park at these times. Thank you for your support with this matter.

Minutes from the meeting will be sent out to all families before the end of term.

Finally
Our Sports Day will be held next Wednesday (22nd) from 9.15am, as far as possible, we will aim to go ahead with this even if the weather is not as sunny as we would like. If we do need to postpone because of wet weather we will update our message board on the main school number and send out a message on our school website front page as soon as that decision has been taken. We will also display message boards around the entrances to school in time for drop off time on that day.
