It's starting to get dark of a Wednesday evening down at Youth HQ so we have started once again running sessions that include an organised activity of one sort or another. Not that we're not organised the rest of the time it's just that we have a largely invisible tribe during the summer months because they are happiest haring around the playing field. The phrase 'herding cats' springs to mind when one tries to impose order on the summer proceedings! We know our place at such times and stick to serving tuck and drinks for the most part. They occasional humour us and let us organise a game of rounders.

Last week

Last week we kept it topical and did our own sort of 'Bake Off' session. I say 'sort of' because it wasn't actually competitive, more of a 'bun off' really. Mind you, as the picture shows, at least two of the boys are quite literally a blur, such is the velocity of their hand beating. Anyway it all ran fairly smoothly and we managed to fit 3 baking shifts in during the session which produced a grand total of 72 fairy cakes, all decorated, most eaten!

This week

This week at Youth Club we will be making a giant Twister game. That's the 'left hand blue, right foot yellow' game of contortion where everyone always ends up in an hysterical heap on the floor. We thought we'd up the ante and design one that can be played by lots of people at once, thereby guaranteeing absolute chaos. Such a versatile idea, crafting, exercise and mass injury all rolled into one useful, rainy day, standby.

We are pleased to report that our membership is still growing as we welcome a new gang of Y7 types. Last week we hit a new high, for a regular session, with 29 in attendance. It's never too late to come along if you are newly eligible to join, there is no regular commitment expected of you. Just come along when you feel like it or when you can. We meet every Wednesday during term time at the village hall, 7.15pm to 9pm, weekly subs on arrival £1. We look forward to seeing you.
