I've decided that toast is infectious. Or at least the smell of bread toasting triggers a reflex urge to get your chops around a crisp, golden, butter laden slice.

Whether it's a comfort thing or a 'hells teeth isn't that a super size jar of room temperature Nutella!' thing, it was certainly the experience at Youth Club last Wednesday. A large loaf of best white sliced demolished in the time it takes to say 'I'm just nipping to the Coop'.

Now, many a week has passed with the newly fresh Youth Club loaf an unopened reproach for a passing good idea so it could be time for a little experiment. Let's just say that from 7.00pm onwards this coming Wednesday there may well be a tantalising waft of freshly made toast to greet the arrivals at Youth Club. 'Conniving?' Moi?

Besides eating toast there were some excellent football shenanigans outside on Wednesday night, courtesy of our new favourite person, Sevi Gultekin. The whole gang (girls and boys) got stuck in and spent a good hour or more under Sevi's tutelage doing interesting, fun and challenging things with a football (it must be clear from that description that what I know of the glorious game could be etched on the antenna of an ant, which is why we need good people like Sevi!).

All of this was achieved in the face of adversity given that the pool of illumination from Youth Club's temporary outdoor lights has a reach of about 8ft, the man is surely a saint (probably with failing eyesight)!

That said, it's not unhelpful to remind our young people of the challenges faced by their forbears, pre the lightbulb, so we'll put a positive spin on events and call it an immersive vintage experience with a football.

Youth Club will be relocating to the Public Hall after the Easter holidays which means lighter nights and access to the playing fields. Our undeterred hero Sevi has offered to come back and reprise last week, only this time in daylight. Thank you Sevi and hurrah!

Youth Club will be meeting again tomorrow, Wednesday 16th March, at 7.00pm for our penultimate session at the Baptist Chapel. The occasion will be marked by the creation of microwave cakes in a cup, providing I can work out how to do it before then.
