Eliot Green has contacted Audlem Online to say that Conrad Green, from Buerton, age 10, is in the England Team Under 11 – national team. He is the second strongest player in the England trials. He is also in the national Fide England International team – under 12.

Eliot says: "As the helper for Cheshire and North Wales Chess, I have been told that no-one has made the team for at least 20 years in Cheshire and North Wales in the Under 11s!"

Conrad is now selected for the Under 11 England Team where approximately 17 top players will be chosen from 60 top English players. Conrad came joint second in the England Trials held over two days during the weekend 26th and 27th April 2008. He won four games – one against the top girl who also came second – drew one and lost one to the eventual winner who had a perfect score.

He won more than half his games in three qualifying tournaments in Nottingham, Halifax and Liverpool. He was joint second in Nottingham earlier in the season on the 13th and 14th October 2007's trial qualifier with James Bowler, Daniel Lea and Radha Jain. The top 17 will form the England Team and will play against other European nations.

In his grade category, Conrad had previously taken first place in Hartlepool in 2007 and first place at the 14th Atherton Rapid play. He is the Cheshire and North Wales number one player in the Under 11 and Under 12 category and has been playing chess since he was four years old
