Our 41st AGM was held on the 14th October and I would like to thank those that made the effort to attend and hear our report for our year end.

As one of the most vital societies in the village, we, as a committee, spend many hundreds of volunteer hours in ensuring the best floral shows we can and the planting of many trees and shrubs around the village and the canal; plus the organising of social events; and in financially supporting many groups and activities.

All we undertake is made possible by raising enough funds, our most major task, to enable us to carry on the tasks we do. Over the past 10 years we have given out some £85,000 trying to make life here pleasant and in aid to others less able to obtain funds.

In the floral displays this year, the Begonias "Million Kisses" have proved a real success and we were delighted to give out some plants last weekend to those were interested in growing them on.

I have to praise all who helped to keep our tubs and troughs and beds well cared for – and the biggest praise must go to Geoff Stretch for the most magnificent of hanging baskets at the Public Hall. Please see the photo kindly taken by Helen Davenport of this most spectacular display of what can be achieved with careful watering and feeding.

Lastly we are delighted to report that this year we have instigated a new Award – "The Community & Heritage" award – which we in ADAS will vote on each year as recognition to an individual, group or business who has in our opinion enriched the life we enjoy here in deepest South Cheshire.

The very first award has gone to Gavin Davies – the Village Lengthsman, who tirelessly and without any fuss keeps the village in excellent order and cleanliness – ensuring that even after the big festivals and events, he has us all shipshape the morning after. Our sincere congratulations to Gavin. (See yesterday's report on Audlem Online with photographs of Gavin.)

I am now planning the displays for 2011 when we will again have "Million Kisses" but also one that seems to naturally follow – The New Begonia "Honeymoon" .

Before that we will be planting some 1000 plus tulips in readiness for the Spring .

Any queries or question or ideas, please do contact me on 812125.
