Wind blows away A525 sign

Yesterday's high winds were sufficiently strong to blow down a large road direction sign on the A525 at the junction of Whitchurch Road and Moorsfield Avenue.

The wind resulted in the two upright metal poles holding the sign to sheer off at their base. Fortunately, the sign toppled over onto a large tree rather than into the road or on to a pedestrian. It did, however, block the pavement.

Cheshire East's Highways department acted with commendable speed and a team was on the spot within ninety minutes of the council being warned of the hazard.

Hopefully, when replaced, the new sign will show that the A525 is no longer on the Primary Route Network with the road shown in 'black on white' rather than the 'yellow on green' used for primary routes.

We apologise for not having a photo of the sign – unfortunately it was blown down and taken away before the camera could be focused!
