Plans have been drawn up by Cheshire County Council for the Weaver Valley Regional Park (WVRP) which will stretch "from Frodsham to Nantwich". Not for the first time it appears that the Weaver defies the geographical reality and bubbles up out of the ground in Nantwich. Given that £15 million is the possible budget, funded in part from lottery grants, overlooking the southern Weaver Valley and the river's source could be an expensive over-sight for Audlem and the surrounding area.

The current geographical limit appears to come from the phrase 'salt heritage'. The plans focus on the Cheshire salt towns and follow the routes taken by the materials involved in the salt trade and chemical industry. While Audlem definitely has a case to make in any project named 'Weaver Valley', perhaps some historical research to pinpoint the area's involvement in the salt trade and its transportation through the area may be worthwhile. Could the History Society oblige? Salford is thought to be a name linked with salt and we have Brinepits Wood and Brinepits Farm, both described as 'salt works' in County Council records. Is there other evidence that could be gathered?
