At the risk of upsetting the anti-village contingent, this is a great place to live! Where else on a Thursday evening on a cold winter's night can you nip across to your local and enjoy a fantastic evening of live music – and it's not karaoke!

Well last night, the Lord Combermere, put on a great music night. Showcasing young local talent, the Foxy Wellingtons playing an acoustic version of their main band set which proved that music is really alive and in a healthy state with the youth.

They were followed by Jack Marshall and Heidi Browne, one from Audlem, one from Market Drayton, together Spareribs. What an amazing sound from these two, both at Manchester Uni but popping back last night to add to the ambience. Again, accomplished musicians creating their own work and delivering it with a quality not often seen or heard.

This hangover is starting to feel a little easier now as the evening is recalled. The Folkwits, Dave Nettleton and Kelly Brammer adding their own sprinkling of music dust to their folk set. Kel's vocals lifted over Dave's percussive and intricate style on various stringed instruments of all sizes.

(Ad Break: Dave Nettleton, local guitar tutor, you won't find better.)

The Folkwits made way for the headline act of the evening, from the Travelling Band, one of Manchester's, no the UK's, finest bands, Adam & Jo.

These two have to be heard, and seen, to appreciate how they create superb harmonies. Performing some of the bands classic tracks here, live, in Audlem and FREE!

Not only that, and hence the hangover, the Marshall's and Haughey's welcomed (wait for it, as this will really start the births and marriages debate as newsworthy!) their latest Granddaughter as Kirsty gave birth to Keira. Not in the pub – now that would have been newsworthy – but close by at home.

So, to George and Kirsty, congratulations, and on with creating the hangover. For me, celebrating the news of the birth as Adam & Jo played 'Only waiting' was near a perfect evening as it gets.

Cheers, Reub, for getting the guys here to play, thank you Lord C for putting the live music on, thank you to everyone there last night – AUDLEM IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE!
